5 How to personalize your search and search results and how to keep updated in PubMed

6 I want to keep my search strategy for future use PubMed (MyNCBI): You can store your searches (search strategies) and collections of references. You need to register for a free account to be able to use MyNCBI. EMBASE (My Workspace): You can store your searches (search strategies). You can also create projects (My Projects) where you can save search strategies, reference collections and files. You need to register for a free account to be able to use My Workspace. All major databases have similar tools for personalization.

7 How to keep updated – alerts PubMed (MyNCBI): You can create alerts from stored search strategies in MyNCBI and keep updated of all new references in PubMed matching your search strategy. You need to register for a free account to be able to use MyNCBI. EMBASE (My Workspace): You can create alerts from stored search strategies in My Workplace and keep updated of all new references in EMBASE matching your search strategy. You need to register for a free account to be able to use My Workspace. All major databases have similar tools for personalization.

9 Registration Chose username and password Provide address if you want to use alerts Security question used to send new password if the old is forgotten Type the characters displayed

10 Using MyNCBI Choose ”My NCBI” from the link in the upper right menu If you are not previously logged on, you will be asked for username and password

11 Bruke MyNCBI In MyNCBI you will find saved searches and alerts (1), saved collections (2), saved biographies (3), chosen filters (4) and your PubMed search history (5). Click «Search» (6) with an empty search field to return to PubMed Logg ut

12 Save Search in My NCBI Click ”Save Search” to save your search strategy Name your search and click on ”Save”.

13 Choose «No thanks» (1) if you only want to save your search and not create an alert. Finisk with «Save» (2). You will get a confirmation message (3) Save Search in My NCBI

14 Choose ”Yes” and when and how often you want an alert Max. number of references in an alert Submit if not done previously Save alert Choose format and content Creating alterts in My NCBI

15 Log on to My NCBI and get access to your stored searches and alerts in ”Saved Searches” (1). Run a search (click on the name), Check whats new since last time, change to/from alert, or delete searches/alerts by clicking on (2). Click on «Manage Saved Searches» (3) if you want to edit several searches at the same time (4). Saved searches and alerts
