Outreach Highlights (cont’d) March 2, 2012 Rep. Seth McKeel (R- Lakeland) talks about the resolution to honor lineworkers across the state on Aug. 26. Lineworkers from across state attended.

Comprised of teachers from throughout Florida who are now delivering or interested in delivering energy curriculum in the future Launched with training session in June at Gulf Power in Pensacola – sponsored by FACTE Had 33 attendees (teachers, school administrators, district administrators) Provide communications from industry/consortium to this network of teachers through and have added teacher “toolkit” to FEWC website Florida Energy Teachers Network

Get into Energy Career Pathways (GIECP): Implementation of Get into Energy Career Pathways –Northwest FL Region: Jennifer Grove, Gulf Power Gulf Power Academy at WFHS Gulf Power Energy Institute at Milton High School Electrical/welding programs at Locklin Tech Adding Youth STEM program in Okaloosa/Walton county this summer –Polk County: Betsy Levingston, Lakeland Electric Lakeland Electric Power Academy at Tenoroc High School May add Traviss Career Center Electrical/welding programs –Have decided not to continue in Southeast FL region at this time –May add Northeast FL locations with JEA as partner (TBD)

GIECP Year One Key Activities Developed state and regional partnerships Trained 19 career coaches throughout state Began recruitment and career coaching in NW Florida Region and Polk County FEWC determined would solicit volunteer project manager so can reserve grant funds for other purposes Will look at adding JEA as partner for 2 schools in 2012

GIECP Successes Partnering with state workforce board (Workforce Florida, Inc) Youth Committee to generate interest throughout workforce system Developing a page on our FEWC website for this effort Reserving grant funds for implementation costs (not project management) Incorporation of GIECP into kick-off of Florida Energy Teachers Network

GIECP Lessons Learned Each region/ utility is different; can’t have a “one size fits all” approach – even within one state Implementation takes time at the school/site level – they are having to add this into already very packed schedules (theirs and students) Have to help partners understand we’re learning as we go – this is not a “regular” grant

EIF online version update: Instructor-led version of EIF set to be ready April 15 with instructor booklet to go along with it (not ANSI accredited yet – have to run first before can do “scope expansion.” Certificate will have CEWD logo not ANSI logo initially.) Univ. of MO will pilot as part of Troops to Energy program beginning in August. Will run the course off of the US Dept. of Education server to begin with so won’t have to focus on technical details. Instructor would get login and would then provide logins to students Valerie Taylor will be coordinator so if we want to offer this way, need to coordinate through Valerie NOTE: Have to send in EIF Approved Provider application months in advance of delivery. Hybrid delivery model will probably be best (distance learning plus scenario models to take place of labs)

GIECP Updates: Gates Foundation has really changed focus in last few months to shift heavily toward community colleges with direct focus on how to move more to completion of programs. Parminder will present at National Energy Education Network meeting. 3 buckets of GIECP work (Gates focused on 2 nd ): 1.Interest to enrollment (awareness, coaching, tracking of success) 2.Completing post-secondary programs (they focus heavily on associates degrees) 3.Graduation to job (support it takes to get them into employment and to stay) This does not impact our current grant with them. Kuder reporting is now up and running!
