2012 NATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS SCHOOLS' FORUM USING THE ULTRANET TO SUPPORT QUALITY LITERACY AND NUMERACY TEACHING
This strategy promotes a differentiated approach to literacy and numeracy learning and teaching. Differentiating learning, based on addressing student need as determined by analysing assessment data, is supported by the Ultranet. Schools are encouraged to utilise the Ultranet and the associated software applications on eduSTAR (School Technology Architecture and Resources) to support their whole school approach to literacy and numeracy improvement. One of the first lessons I try to teach colleagues interested in using digital tools in their teaching and learning is to be persistent. “Don’t give up at the first sign of trouble,” I say, “because it definitely won’t be the last!” The best 21 st century teachers are what I call digitally resilient. Digital resilience means determination in the face of blocked websites, failing services, antiquated tools… William M. Link to what teachers are already doing (not an added extra - this is now quality teaching). Keep the focus on teaching and learning, not the technology (teachers and students will learn that anyway). Have a range of teachers leading the implementation, maintenance and ongoing evaluation - the experienced teachers, those who are great at teaching anyway as they know what works with students. The best leaders of the Ultranet are not necessarily the tech heads who want to always go off and try the latest, different thing. The young and enthusiastic teachers also can get a chance to shine, share and contribute. Scaffold, scaffold, scaffold - keep the focus on teaching and learning... FUSE - Digital Library of the Ultranet, ebookboxes, templates. Multi-pronged approach - don't just wait for the teachers to get on board. Make sure students are empowered and provided access from day 1 no matter who their teacher is (templates). Also have a school-wide systematic approach for content there for parents (link to current school practices) to connect with their child's learning. Know that this is making a HUGE and lasting contribution in improving students' and teachers' learning and lives - CELEBRATE everything. Ultranet Implementation – some key strategies

Challenge According to Rogers Diffusion of Innovation Theory, initiatives succeed or fail on their ability to transition from early adopters to early majority phase. Ultranet uptake is currently sitting between the Early Adopters and Early Majority stage. The focus will now be on providing schools with the support to transition to the next phase.
