The sone 4 project Linda Velle Sjøen PROMISE Prague 2004

Linda Velle Sjøen Prague September 2004 The Sone 4 Project What competence do pupils need when working with problem oriented projects? How can we give all teachers in sone 4 a basic knowledge and competence working with the project method? How can we give our pupils a smooth crossing from primary to secondary school?

Linda Velle Sjøen Prague September 2004 A Method Competence Plan All schools in sone 4 agreed to develop and make use of a progression plan for method competence A working group made the plan. The teachers practiced it with their pupils The teachers from different schools in sone 4 met regularly and discussed their experiences The teachers at the same level gave suggestions to improve the plan

Linda Velle Sjøen Prague September 2004 Contents of the Method Competence Plan 1. Focus area 2. Problem formulation 3. Collecting information and information retrieval 4. Collaboration and teacher involvement 5. Ways of expression/products/presentation

Linda Velle Sjøen Prague September 2004 What did we learn about school improvement? Importance of leadership Involvement and feeling of ownership More effective dissemination when schools cooperate

Linda Velle Sjøen Prague September 2004 What did we learn about the Project Method? The pupils must learn step by step how to work individually, cooperate, make their own choices, work towards their goals, work experimenting or poblem oriented, how to get and use the information and how to present. ’The Stone in the Shoe’ is important for motivation, the subjet must be relevant and actual. The teacher need more competence in being good advisers

Linda Velle Sjøen Prague September 2004 The ’sone 4’ project and PROMISE Six different teachers from three different schools in sone 4 were invited to participate in PROMISE The teachers were inspired to work with transnational projects It also gave an extra support working with local projects and local dissemination of the Project Method.
