What to remember…  P.E. bags should be brought into school on Monday and taken home on Friday A P.E. kit should include: a white t-shirt, blue or black shorts, white socks and black plimsolls.  Reading folders should be brought in every day. (Plastic zip wallet – welfare 75p)  Reading folders should have the reading book, record and library book. Library book should be brought back to school on the day of the library session. Homework is given out as follows:  Wednesday - Science  Friday - Maths and Spellings  Homework for other subjects, such as Literacy, is issued at various times depending on what the children are working on in class. (E.g. to complete a task, to support classroom learning)  Children may be required to stay in during break time/ lunchtime, unless they have a note from the parent/carer explaining why they were unable to complete it.  Multiplication facts and weekly spellings should be reinforced daily.  Encourage children to use the correct mathematical and scientific vocabulary.  Children should be reading independently and reading to their parent/carer. Please record this in their reading records.

Literacy  There are 3 phases. Writing tasks are shorter in phases 1 & 2 building up to a lengthy piece of writing (fiction / non- fiction) in the final phase.

Resources  There are many affordable resources available in shops that can help children with their work at school  Look for age the book is aimed at (10-11 years) KS2  Some examples are: CGP, Letts and Schofield&Sims.

SATs  During the week 13 th – 17 th May 2013 children will be taking the national Standard Attainment Tasks.  Science: two 45 minute papers – (non-statutory)  English: one 60 minute reading/comprehension paper, one 45 minute writing paper, a 20 minute writing paper and one spelling test. This year there will be an additional grammar test.  Maths: one mental maths test (20 questions), two 45 minute written papers (one with and one without a calculator).  Results should be available during the first week of July.  Examples of test papers are available for inspection.  Useful websites for SATs revision – handout available.
