In the NZ Presbyterian Church 45% congregations have less than 50 attenders 75% have less than 100 attenders 92% have less than 200 attenders so St Albans is in the top 8% on size, most of whom are non- European congregations. 99% have less than 400 attenders Murray left us with this challenging question: Do we want to see more people reached for God’s kingdom and our church to grow or are we happy with the way we are? Do we want to grow as a church or grow old together?

Murray continued: The goal of a church is to be an agent of God’s kingdom. Numerical growth is a sign of effective Kingdom ministry. The biggest barrier for any NZ church is the mark which St Albans has passed but has been stalled at a Sunday attendance of around 200 adults for 14 years. Churches are so often inverted/upside down pyramids with the pastor at the bottom trying to toss the caber! In order to for a church to grow, it requires an Attitude Change by elders, staff and congregation to make the necessary Structural Changes in 11 Key areas.

Most churches in the Western World (80%) have around members This bigger church thinking also means that the main purpose of Sunday services is the worship and openness of God, and not about our personal relationships. The main purpose of small groups is to develop our relationships.
