When children are ready to start school in Japan it’s a very special time. They are dressed in their best party clothes and taken to the photographer’s studio to have their photographs taken. On their first day at school there is a special welcome infront of the whole school. This sign says Omedeto. It welcomes the new children to their new school. Japanese people don’t wear shoes inside their homes or schools. They believe that wearing shoes inside is bad manners. Their teacher is not in the hall with them. She is busy getting changed into her PE clothes. The children are expected to get on with it by themselves with no being silly – and they do that beautifully! These children are doing warm ups for PE.
