Presentation transcript:

Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that cause adverse change Pollution can take the form of chemical substances or energy, such as noise, heat or light.

Pollution become the major problem that it is today seems to have begun during the industrial revolution. This is when our lack of sensitivity towards the environment became a problem. Before the 1800’s the earth’s population and the methods we used for improving life were not as damaging as they are since then. During the industrial revolution we discovered that fossil fuels are much more efficient at producing energy than most other natural resources. As each country and company scrambled for profit fossil fuels became necessary for greater production at cheaper prices. As well, the issue of pollution only grew after World War II due to the atomic warfare and the nuclear testing that was occurring.

As a society we cannot prevent pollution but we sure are trying to reduce it. We are doing this through means such as using public transport, using solar panels, wind turbines and other ways of creating energy. Reducing pollution can be as simple as not littering and recycling. Industries are attempting to use fuel with lower sulphur content as well as monitor their air emissions regularly and take measures to ensure compliance with the prescribed emission standards. Industries need to strictly follow applicable government regulations on pollution control Organic waste should be dumped in places far from residential areas Inorganic materials such as metals, glass and plastic, but also paper, can be reclaimed and recycled

In 1971 they were champion of implementing eco-friendly measures at corporate level and they have been following this trend ever since. In 2012 they received the European Union Code of Conduct for Data Centers Award, recognition for their long term efforts. They were one of the first eco-friendly companies back in a time when the concept of climate change was something too vague to be concerned about. Their Smarter Planet Initiative has successfully gotten consumers to get involved and lead a greener and more sustainable life. Education and innovation within the digital and social media space is their key to success.

Volkswagen cars always lead the top 10 lists of the most eco-friendly cars in the world thanks to their holistic approach to producing high- efficient, eco-conscious cars, fueled by TDI clean diesel gas.

They don’t just focus on being energy efficient, but they shine when it comes to social responsibility and sustainability. They put their values into practice through volunteerism and are well known leaders in this field. Over 20,000 Sony employees have gathered food for the hungry, built homes for people who couldn’t afford it, cleaned polluted water resources, and done so much more to help disadvantaged people and protect the environment.
