UAEnic in Lines 1994: (.ae) started first by UAE University 1995: Etisalat was re-delegated to run (.ae) 1996: UAEnic was partly formed under Etisalat 1998: Dedicated staff was assigned for UAEnic functions 2000: UAEnic Board Establishment 2001, Oct: Started IPv6 testing with 6bone Network 2002, Jan: Introduced flat registration e.g , Jun: Started Sunrise period 2002, Sep: Obtained IPv6 Addresses (/32)d from RIPE NCC

UAEnic in Lines 2002, Oct: Registration opened for non UAE residents and relaxed registration policy. 2002, Nov: Obtained ENUM Delegation from ITU. 2002, Dec: Started of ENUM trial in UAE 2003, Apr: Obtained Secondary DNS Service from RIPE NCC 2003, Jun: Obtained Secondary DNS Service from APNIC 2003, Aug: Arabic Domain Name Trail (اتصالات.ae) 2003, Nov: Installed Mirrored F-Root Name Server

UAEnic Functions Handles day-to-day operation of Domain Name Registration and IP Address assignment. Maintain UAEnic Databases for Domain Names and IP Addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) Issue the polices that manage the Domain Name Registration in line with the best practice and ICANN guidelines Issue the polices that manage the the IP Address assignment in line with RIPE NCC guidelines Develop technical, operation, administration and legal policies related to Name Servers (NSs) of “.ae” Ensure the fairness procedure for domain name registration based on first come first served

UAEnic Functions Participate in regular meetings and conferences related to Domain Names and IP Address such ICANN, RIPE, ITU, WIPO and other related organizations. Create awareness among the local Internet community on the latest issues that concern the Domain Names and IP addresses

Ongoing Projects Developing test-bed for Arabic Domain Name under.ae Top Level Domain (e.g. اتصالات.ae) Testing IPv6 Addresses with Universities and Colleges in the UAE, in step to create the National IPv6 Native Network Testing ENUM Services Developing the required System for Automating the whole process of Domain Name Registration as phase 1, and allow Online Registration as phase 2 Installation of a second Mirrored Root Name Server (K) for more redundancy
