Mind Mapping and other aids! Or how to help my teenager survive revision

What did Jordan do in his summer holidays? Watched Harry Potter 7 th Birthday party Visited the sea life centre and the fun park Went to London in the first week to visit his cousins and grandma In spare time went swimming, playstation, wrote stories and s Which method was more memorable ?

Q + A sessions Read the following passage: Electrolysis An electric current can split a salt into its elements if it is molten or dissolved in water. Electrolysis = electricity splitting First discovered by an English chemist, Humphry Davy – used electrolysis to isolate the elements potassium, barium, strontium, calcium and magnesium. The negatively charged ions move towards the positive electrode and the positively charged ions move towards the negative electrode. At the electrodes the particles turn back into atoms. Make up 3 questions to ask your child about the passage.

What does electrolysis mean? Who first used electrolysis? What type of particles move towards the negative electrode? What is an ion?

Other methods Summarising text Key points eg Quizlet Explain things to someone else Practice papers and questions

Using the Internet to Revise Online revision sites can help check your knowledge and understanding. They do not work if they are the only form of revision that you do. They can help you practice exam technique.

BUT Remember to revise not just use facebook and MSN all the time!!!!

Why have a VLE? Secure access to resources Access to peer and staff support Widely used in university life Practice ICT / web skills
