Hieroglyphics of Ancient Egypt By: Yu Bin

Usually shapes related to Egyptian myths What is it? Hieroglyphics were the first writings that the Egyptians invented. They were pictures or signs that represented Egyptian letters. The Egyptian words for hieroglyphics were 'Words of the gods'.

Why were they created? This is ‘Scarab’, the sacred Egyptian jewel that is shape of a beetle. They were created, because the ancient Egyptians believed that writing had special powers. They thought they were sacred.

What were they written on? They were written on a special paper called ‘Papyrus’ or inside the pyramids. Hieroglyphics can be written from left to right, right to left, or in columns. Pharaohs' names were written inside an oval shape.

Why is Rosetta stone important? They are important, because after people found 3 Rosetta stones of different hieroglyphics, people could learn how to read hieroglyphics by trying to find out and learning relationships between 3 Rosetta stones .
