November 2011 The US, EC and Japan presented the draft proposal to establish 2 working groups to address safety and environmental issues of EVs. March 2012 AC3 agreed development of UN GTR on EVS. 1. US announced that the next informal meeting was scheduled to be held on April 2013 in Tokyo. Summary of latest EVS informal meetings 3 rd Meeting – April Japan presented a draft paper regarding Part A of the GTR to the IG and the principle of the paper, as a description of how we approach GTR development, was agreed. The discussions regarding the GTR Outline (Part B) were started. It serves to list all items which IG will discuss to determine whether they should be added to GTR. Next Meeting October 2013: 4th

TOR of EVE Scope The term and the work in the groups will cover both battery electric (BEV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) (including plug-in hybrids (PHEV)) within the range of the1998 Agreement.

Thirty Eight APEC Transportation Working Group Meeting, Bali, Indonesia 1 – 5 July Reported to 159 th WP29 in March 2013 Canada informed WP29/AC3 that the main objective of EVE was to develop a regulatory reference guide for electric vehicle technologies taking into account attributes that characterize electric vehicles, batteries, charging infrastructure and market deployment support mechanisms, with specific attention to their interaction with the environment. Summary of latest EVE informal meetings 5 th Meeting – April Completed information gathering, discussion of completed questionnaires by contracting parties and summary presentation. 6 th Meeting – 3 June Sought input from CPs and other IWGs on list of priority issues to inform reference guide recommendations and guide potential future research/testing All stakeholders invited to submit further literature/data. Thirty Eight APEC Transportation Working Group Meeting, Bali, Indonesia 1 – 5 July Reported to 160 th WP29 in June 2013 EVS Japan, Secretary of the IWG on EVS informed that the group had agreed on an outline of the draft UN GTR to address all safety issues. Japan added that two options were considered: (i) a two-step approach or (ii) a single step approach on the road map to have a comprehensive UN GTR covering a broader range of technologies. Japan announced that a draft road map would be provided at the November 2013 session of AC.3. EVE China, Technical sponsor of the IWG on EVE mentioned that at the sixth meeting of the IWG the reference items to develop a UN GTR were discussed and invited interested parties to provide research data.

Thirty Eight APEC Transportation Working Group Meeting, Bali, Indonesia 1 – 5 July Reported to 159 th WP29 in March 2013 December 2012: 2 nd Germany This group had started examining amongst others: 1. 1.Proposal tabled by Japan 2. 2.US notice of proposal rulemaking 3. 3.Recommendation and approach undertaken by the EC This group intended to prepare the outline of the UN GTR as well as to examine possible interactions with the provisions of UN regulation No. 41 and No.51. EU emphasized that the QRTV was the most appropriate group to develop global legislation on this matter.

The discussion at QRTV informal group is also reflected to the final development of U.S. regulations - -ISO/SAE, OICA and Japan made presentation of their studies regarding the appropriate sound for AVAS 1) - -Discussed on the Japanese proposal on the concept of QRTV GTR - -CLEPA performed demonstrations of the vehicles installed with AVAS which meets the requirements of US NPRM - -Confirmed the schedule to draft GTR text by November 2014 and that OICA will take the lead of drafting work 1) AVAS: Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System Next Meeting July 2013: 4th meeting, Washington D.C.
