By: Alexis Brown 2005 How the Segway Works

Inventor of the Segway Dean Kamen is the inventor of the Segway He hopes that his creation will better the enviroment and the way people travel

Segway in General created with to wheels and a plat form for the person to stand on goes 12 mph and on average cost 5,000 dollars

Gyroscopes wheel like device help maintain a steady position on the scooter no matter which way it moves or how fact it is going

Motor Segway has highest powered motor for its size Uses magnets to go

Motor There are 2 motors If 1 fails the other kicks in

Gears Number of gears made to minimize noise each revolution the gears land in a different place

Rubber Diaphragms The rubber Diaphragms is the balancing system

Rubber Diaphragms Controlled so when you step of the platform the segway stops

Chassis The chassis is the frame and it houses the inner electronics

Chasis chasis is tested to stand 7 tons

Tilt Sensors Detects movement forward and backwards

Computer Procesor Mimic human equilibrium

Computer Processor Makes movement equal to our movement

Computer Processor The equilibrium is the influence on something that cancels it out

Tires Tubeless tires resistant to flats traction on wet surfaces leaves no marks indoors

Security Code On the Segway there is a security code to keep anyone from steeling it.

Sisterboards The Sisterboards are a pair of circuits Sends commands to the motor based on the input from the sensors

Sisterboards If one fails the other sisterboards takes over

Batteries There are 2 types of batteries: NiCd and NiMh battery rechargeble by electricity

Control Shaft Steering wheel of the scooter Made of diecast aluminum Adjustable to one’s height

Turning Control The turning control makes the Segway have a turning radius of zero

User Interface Tells when the machine is on what mode it is in how much battery life is left

Segway Facts $0.10 for 6 hours of electricity to charge the Segway

Segway Facts The Segway has no brakes

Segway Facts The United States Postal Service will be testing 20 on different routes
