The River Nile By Adam and Jack.F

Facts about the Nile Located in Africa, the Nile River lies in the following countries: Kenya, Eritrea, Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia. Around 40 million people (half of Egypt’s population) live in the Nile Delta region. Aswan High Dam was built in 1970 to help regulate flooding of the Nile River.

Where it flows The Nile is the longest river in the world. It flows north for 6671 km ,from Lake Victoria in east Africa to the Mediterranean Sea.

FARMING ON THE NILE Egyptian farmers planted grains, beans, and vegetables in the moist soil along the edge of the Nile. Crops grew quickly there. The fresh dirt carried by the Nile every year was like a fertilizer. Farmers dug ditches to spread the floods as far as possible and to keep a steady water supply to their farms.

Boats on the Nile In ancient Egypt there, wasn’t much wood around. Most boats were made from bundles of papyrus, a tough reed that grew on the banks of the river.
