Grading 1 st Semester 1 - Number System Fluency 2 - Rate, Ratio & Proportional Reasoning 3 - Expressions 4 - One-Step Equations & Inequalities 2 nd Semester 5 - Area & Volume 6 - Statistics 7 - Rational Explorations Math 6 Objectives 2015 – 2016 Mathematics Syllabus 6 th Grade – Mrs. Forbes Welcome to 6 th Grade Math! I look forward to working with each of you. I know we are going to have an exciting, interesting, and fulfilling year together. This is OUR classroom. We are a team. We must work together in order to achieve our goals. My goals are to teach you the Georgia Standards of Excellence, provide a safe, nurturing, and interesting environment, and get you to LOVE MATH as much as I do. Your goals should be to succeed in math, get along with your peers, and to come to class prepared with a positive attitude. I have high expectations for all of you. I KNOW we are going to have a fantastic year together! I believe that clear guidelines will prevent future problems and miscommunications throughout the school year. Rules provide a safe and effective learning environment and procedures. Procedures are necessary for an efficient, well ran, organized classroom. Behavior rewards will be given to reinforce positive behaviors and behavior consequences will be administered according to Tapp’s demerit system. When we waste time with constant interruptions, we are not going to be able to accomplish our goals. If for some reason a procedure isn’t working, we’ll change it. I’m flexible! Demonstrate Tapp P.R.I.D.E. Personal Best, Respect, Integrity Determination, and Effort. Come to class on time and ready to start. Make sure your homework is out, your agenda has been completed, and begin your Success Starter. Classroom Expectations If you are absent please check the blog. You can also check with a friend or me. All missed work should be made up promptly. Homework Policy: Research indicates that schools in which homework is routinely assigned and assessed tend to have higher achieving students. Homework fosters student achievement, independence and responsibility and serves as a vital link between school and home. Therefore, we will assign homework that is meaningful and required. Students are required to ask questions to clarify homework assignments before leaving class; complete and submit homework assignments by the due date and complete all assignments honestly in accordance with teacher directions. THIS SYLLABUS IS A GUIDE AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE TO ACCOMMODATE STUDENT NEEDS.

 Basic 4 Function Calculator  Two 3-prong folders  Notebook Paper  Pencils and Erasers  Math Textbook (needed daily)  Composition Notebook Supplies For Please subscribe to my “Remind” class by to I will be sending out texts reminding students and parents of upcoming tests or quizzes, changes in assignment due dates, reminders to visit my blog, and other important/helpful bits of information. Math Survival Guide Expectations The purpose of the Math Survival Guide (MSG) is to enable students to be creative, independent thinkers and writers. Math Survival Guides (MSG) will be used for class notes as well as for other activities in which students will be asked to express their own ideas and process the information presented in class. Students will be expected to maintain this organization tool throughout the year. Reassessment Policy: In the event a student does not show mastery of the standards on a summative assessment he or she will be given the opportunity to rework / retake the assessment to demonstrate a better understanding of the content and achieve a higher score. In order to rework / retake a summative assessment the student must complete a retake contract which will require a parent signature. The student will have one week from the time the contract is given to complete the assignments on the contract and schedule their retake. The contract will specify what the student has to do in order to rework / retake the assessment along with submission dates for all required assignments. If the student fails to complete all of the key components of the retake contract he or she will forfeit the opportunity to retake the test. Please remember that the score the student receives will be replaced. Online Textbook: Students will be assigned a textbook for math class. The textbook is also available on line at: Login for online textbook: Username:ccsde0lunchnumber (example:ccsde ) Password: cobbmath1 Teacher Contact Information Phone: Blog: th Grade Math Tutoring Schedule Any student may tutor and retake assessments with any of our 6 th grade math teachers.
