Tharamaroa Troconis POST AND LINTEL

GUIDE Definition. Post. Lintel How post and lintel work together. Application in construction Different materials Lintel How post and lintel work together. Advantages and flaws of using this system.

Post and Lintel Post and lintel is a way of construction that overpass a countable time, in ancient times this way of structure is the primary respond of the prehistorical men to his needs. Needs that were create when we need to protect ourselves from the weather, the animals, nature conditions. We can say we create a structure that aloud us to developed ourselves over the time, without compromising our way of relate with ourselves. Creating spaces that bring us together.

Post and Lintel Is an structure consisting in vertical beams (post), supporting an horizontal beam (lintel)

POST Definition

Post A post, or vertical beam is an estructure that supports a horizontal beam. It is his work to support the lintel without crushing or buckling.

POST It’s a primary element into what construction is refer to, cause it aloud to support weight in an effective way, and in terms of design it aloud to create openings in buildings , such as windows, doors, or simply spaces were us human can developed.

POST Materials: They must be specially strong in compression. Iron Steel Reinforced concrete Stone Wood Masonry

LINTEL Definition

LINTEL A lintel is an horizontal beam, used as a finishing piece over a door or a window. In terms of construction a lintel is the structure use to support the weight of the ceiling, an upper floors.

LINTEL Materials: They must be specially strong in bending. Allowing material to be a longer piece. Iron Steel Stone Wood

POST AND LINTEL Post and lintel work together as a unit to create spaces and buildings, is the primary way of human construction since ancient times, cause it is an excellent structure for us human to live in. The post is the part that supports the weight, and the lintel is the part that protect us from weather. Is the respond of human to the outdoor living.

Conclusion When we tried to relate construction with architecture is inevitable that both fields are extremely related, we architects express ourselves trough construction, is the way other people can appreciate our ideas and way of thinking. When we talk about post and lintel that is such an original way of expression into what architecture is oriented, we can’t help of thinking that if we only use that structure we might condemned ourselves into a box creation, but is only the union of beauty and function with this structural perform what brings us real architecture. Architecture that shows our soul.
