NADA serving YOUR Community NADA Austria Conference, September 2013 Nic Constable DCHA’c ADS

I honour the place in you where the universe Dwells The place in you that is Love light peace and truth  This is or at least should be the truth behind every NADA treatment NAMASTE

It is more than;  just sticking up to 5 pins into peoples ears,  About giving chaotic/busy people a good reason to stop for 45 minute, possibly to power nap,  To be able to make us feel good about ourselves because we are helping people  It is about Compassion, Respect, Honesty, Community What is NADA

 Substance misuse drug/alcohol  Mental Health hospital & Community  Criminal Justice Courts / programmes  More recently disaster relief response teams What these have in common is that they are already a part of the system. They are being seen by some agency and are deemed to need some kind of extra intervention Traditional NADA client base

 There are a huge number of people that are not part the system (but live in your community)  They are the members of your Community that “cope” with life  They don’t cost the government or the tax payer anything  They are not anti social, they do not break the law or clog up the doctors waiting rooms What about the people outside the SYSTEM

There are a HUGE number of people that live in OUR COMMUNITY, YOUR COMMUNITY That we do not see or we choose to ignore that truly do struggle and need your HELP NEWS FLASH

What does NADA stand for  COMPASSION  RESPECT  PEACE  COMMUNITY Then how can we continue to ignore the growing number of people in our community that need our help? NADA

 250 people a day are treated in a hospital in Cornwall for Alcohol related illness  We see a growing number of cancer patients, 1 thing they all appear to have in common is a hectic life style  Stress and anxiety levels in people affected by the economic situation increasing  Violent behaviour is on the increase Prevention better than cure

OO pen 2 days a week 22 morning sessions a week DD onation only FF ree treatments to those that can’t afford it NN o appointment needed NN o limit regarding number of treatments. LL imited space so we see up to 14 people at a time. Our community clinic

 At any one time we have between 40 and 50 people on our community clinic books.  We also use this space for trainee supervision, annual re-assessment and practice sessions Our Community Clinic

Nurse Single parent 35 years old High Anxiety / Stress Levels Worried about an increase in alcohol levels Poor sleep pattern Irritable Patient 1

 Much calmer  More focused, less stressed at work  Doesn’t react as quickly to negative stimulus from her children  Sleeps better  Feels generally healthier SINCE RECEIVING NADA

 Search and rescue pilot, Navy served in Aftghanistan  Hyper Alert  Suffered from anxiety and stress with bouts of uncalled for anger  Erratic sleep patern  Possible PTSD but not diagnosed Patient 2

 NADA gives him periods of calm and reduces his hyper alertness  Reduced the bouts of Anger  On the night that he receives NADA he sleeps well Since receiving NADA

 Female  Ex Services  PTSD  suffered from Domestic Violence ( both physical and emotional)  High level of alcohol,  Anxious and tearful.  Low Self Esteem Patient 3

 The most obvious difference is the reduction in alcohol intake  Also sleep patterns are definitely improving  Still suffering from high anxiety levels but does appear to be coping slightly better.  She does say that her children notice the difference if she cant make the NADA sessions. Since receiving NADA

 Male 55.  Liver and bowel cancer  Has received Chemotherapy  Cancer has stopped growing however it is shrinking very slowly  Patient finds the treatment very hard to cope with while appreciating that it is keeping him alive. Patient 4

 Energy levels are improved  More focused allowing him to approach his illness in a more spiritual way  Reducing nausea  Improves the quality of his sleep  For him it also allows him to help out in the family business for short periods of time which boosts his self esteem  He only got help after coming to NADA group Since receiving NADA

 Cancer care  PTSD  Emotional Trauma  Stress related (work/life), high unemployment low income.  Drug and alcohol misuse  Mental health issues, depression Other reasons for treatments

 I have been running Community clinics for 10 years and what I have witnessed is an improvement in the quality of peoples every day lives.  It is often apparent that peoples general health awareness improves  It help to break down social barriers Summary

 Ancient China Barefoot Doctors would travel around the country offering Natural Health Treatments to the villagers in exchange for small amounts of money, food and a safe place to sleep  Although they had no academic training they did have knowledge handed down that they used to help and support others and only asked patients for what they could afford. Barefoot Doctor

 OUR AIM IS TO TRAIN PEOPLE TO OFFER AURICULAR ACUPUNCTURE IN COMMUNITY CLINICS THROUGHOUT SOUTH ENGLAND  FOR THESE CLINICS TO BE A DONATION ONLY CLINIC  TO OFFER TREATMENTS FREE TO THOSE THAT HAVE NO MONEY  IN OTHER WORDS TO RE-INTRODUCE THE ROLE OF THE “BAREFOOT DOCTOR” Barefoot Health Service 2013 Based on the “Barefoot Doctor Tradition”
