Share Overview The goal of this part of the project is to share your creation with the public, simulating what real world professionals do when developing a new design for the marketplace. You will each take on the role of an industry professional such as a scientist, artist, or webmaster, and then work together to create your final presentation piece.

Industry Roles  The following slides describe four different industry roles that team members will take on: artist, evolutionary biologist, environmental scientist, and wikispace webmaster. Read them carefully!  For teams of 4, each member will choose one role. For teams of 3, the team will each fill one of the first three roles and then work together on creating their wiki.  If a team can’t decide who will fill each role within a reasonable time period (~20 minutes) the teacher will discuss it with the team and then assign roles if necessary.

Industry Roles Artist: In the Create part of the project your team produced one or more drawings that illustrated the new species or trait. You may have also created 3-D models. The artist’s job is to create the final drawings (and models), or perfect those already begun, to use in the final presentation.

Industry Roles Artist: Your artwork should: Be carefully drawn/created to show features of the original organism that have stayed the same as well as the new feature that developed through evolution Be neat, with few or no smudges, eraser marks, wrinkles, etc. Show appropriate color Not include a background or have very minimal background graphics.

Industry Roles Evolutionary Biologist: The job of the evolutionary biologist is to explain the evolutionary mechanism that led to the development of the new trait. You will write a short essay that describes what change has occurred and why.

Industry Roles Evolutionary Biologist: Your essay should: Describe the evolution of the organism that occurred Explain the how the evolution occurred (discuss how natural selection and/or other mechanisms of evolution worked to bring about the new species) Be free of spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and grammar errors.

Industry Roles Environmental Scientist: An environmental scientist uses information from a variety of scientific disciplines to study the environment. Your job is to write a description of the environmental change or conditions that caused the organism to evolve and develop the new/different trait, and to explain how that environmental change was caused by global warming.

Industry Roles Environmental Scientist: Your description should: Explain the change in the environment that caused the species to evolve Discuss how that change was caused by global warming Be free of spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and grammar errors.

Industry Roles Wikispace Webmaster: A webmaster designs websites and uploads content to those sites. Your job is to design the best wiki to showcase your team’s work. You will scan your illustration(s), photograph your 3-D model(s) if created, and upload/post all materials produced by other team members.

Industry Roles Wikispace Webmaster: Your wiki should: Be only one page Make use of headings, color, fonts, etc. to produce an attractive webpage Include all content from the artist, evolutionary biologist, and environmental scientist Be well organized (may use a table for this)

Final Presentation When the wikis are done, each group will give a short presentation of their new species to the class. Presentations will include showing the team’s wiki and explaining the new species and how it came to be. All team members must participate in the presentation.

Grading Notes  While each team member focuses on completing one job, everyone should review each other’s work and help each other do their best.  Before you are done, each team should evaluate their project using the rubric that will be used to grade the project, and then make improvements as needed.  Remember, this is a group project and all members of the group will usually receive the same grade. If it comes to the attention of the teacher that someone in the group is not participating, the teacher reserves the right to lower that individual’s grade.
