The Holy Spirit is a Person John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. Spirit – Greek is “pneuma” (neutral gender) He/Him – masculine gender

The Holy Spirit is a Person As a Divine Person, the Holy Spirit can be: Acts 5:3 1.Lied to – Acts 5:3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?” Matthew 12: Blasphemed – Matthew 12:31-32 Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.

The Holy Spirit is a Person As a Divine Person, the Holy Spirit can be: Ephesians 4:30 3. Grieved – Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Note: You cannot lied to, blaspheme (use abusive, slanderous language) and grieve an impersonal force! Note: The key to having a successful relationship with the Holy Spirit is sensitivity!

The Holy Spirit is Lord 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Note: In the NT the phrase “The Lord” directly corresponds to the sacred name of God in the OT, which is “Yahweh” or “Jehovah”! Note: The key to true spiritual freedom is to yield to the lordship of the Holy Spirit!

The Holy Spirit is Lord Luke 6:46 But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Note: The Lord Jesus is Lord “over” the Church (He is the Head). The Holy Spirit is Lord “in” the Church (He indwells the each believer individually and the entire Church as a whole!) Note: Only as much as we yield to the Holy Spirit as Lord in the Church do we allow the Jesus to be Lord over the Church (that much and no further!)

The Holy Spirit is Lord John 16:14-15 He (the Holy Spirit) will glorify Me (Jesus), for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

The Dove and the Lamb (1 Kings 19:11-13) The Lord revealed Himself to Elijah not in the “strong wind”, nor in the “earthquake”, nor in the “fire” but in “a still small voice” John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

The Dove and the Lamb John 1:32-34 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him (Jesus). I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

What’s Attracts the Dove? The “nature of the Lamb”: 1.Purity (Holiness) 2.Meekness (Humility) 3.Sacrifice – a life laid down for God Note: All these qualities of the Lamb of God (Jesus) that attracts the Dove (the Holy Spirit) to descend and remain upon Him are the very same qualities all believers must have to also attract the Holy Spirit!

What’s Attracts the Dove? Ephesians 4:29-32 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Beholding the Mirror 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (James 1:22-25) James speaks of the Word of God as a mirror (James 1:22-25)

“Big Babies” or Grown Up Sons? John 3:3b “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again (born from above), he cannot see the kingdom of God” Romans 8:14 For as many as are (being continually) led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.
