Approve Advocacy proposals: –Approve the MAWG Work Plan –Endorse establishing a strategy to strengthen the RBM Partnership "brand " – name recognition. Scope of workDecisions for Board Proposed Board decisions 2007 work plan details activities toward RBM Partnership goals as per Global Strategic Plan 2005 to 2015 to reduce the burden of malaria on endemic countries Stronger RBM brand ensures broader recognition and signals that fighting malaria can only be done in partnership. RBM Partnership is now positioned to be the group linked inextricably to malaria.

Approve Advocacy proposals: –Provide RBM Secretariat with additional $ USD for endemic country participants –Agree to initiate Board actions to secure an Ex Officio seat for the RBM Executive Director on the Global Fund Board Scope of workDecisions for Board Proposed Board decisions To enhance MAWG messaging and strategies with concrete, current evidence of what is working and not working on the ground and create linkages between global and local advocacy groups.. RBM Exec Dir representation on GF Board will enhance profile of malaria in GF Board deliberations; achieve more balanced representation of three priority diseases.

Approve Advocacy proposals: –Agree to promote the World Malaria Day agenda during the WHA Scope of work Decisions for Board Proposed Board decisions Malaria has a global impact; cross- border collaboration is critical, as is involvement of all populations at risk. A World Malaria Day will draw greater international support and be inclusive of all nations and regions affected by malaria

Increase Endemic Country Participation in MAWG Additional endemic country advocates will: Expand the geographical reach and representation of the MAWG. Create linkages between global and local advocacy groups thereby laying the groundwork for collaboration and synergy between them. Enhance MAWG messaging and strategies with concrete, current evidence of what is working and not working on the ground. Provide a forum for critical networking among global and country-level advocates. Currently, the Secretariat sponsors 4 endemic country members to its twice yearly meetings. An additional 6 members will ensure minimum representation from the 4 Sub-regional networks (2 each) plus Asia and Latin America To meet this need MAWG requires an additional $ USD (6 additional participants x $5,000 x 2 meetings per year).

Ex Officio seat for RBM Executive Director on the Global Fund Board In order to fulfil her mandate to take a leading role in malaria advocacy and in view of the Partnership's business goals, the MAWG strongly recommends that appropriate steps are taken for the Executive Director to become an Ex Officio member of the GF Board GF provides 64% of global malaria funding; direct Partnership representation on GF Board would contribute substantially to Partnership priorities and business goals An Ex Officio seat for the Partnership will enhance the profile of malaria during GF Board deliberations and contribute to more balanced representation among the three disease priorities

Strategy to strengthen RBM Partnership "brand " – name recognition The collective goals and accomplishments of the RBM Partnership are increasingly being promoted. However, standards for branding and strategic use of the Partnership label are loose and carried out on an ad-hoc, individual basis. Partner and public engagement in mission and principles of the RBM Partnership is essential; one group should be linked inextricably in the public's eye to malaria. With renewed purpose and spirit stemming from the change initiative, the RBM Partnership is positioned to be this group. A stronger brand would provide greater opportunities to communicate more broadly (to more endemic countries, to untapped donors, to the wider public) the goals, challenges and accomplishments of the RBM Partnership an the ongoing fight against malaria. A clear strategy will provide guidance and clarity on how and where the RBM Partnership label should be applied.

Promote World Malaria Day during WHA In recognition of the global impact of malaria; the need for greater cross-border collaboration; the need for greater involvement of all populations at risk; and in order to keep malaria high on the international agenda, the MAWG requests country representatives to promote World Malaria Day resolution during the 60th World Health Assembly and beyond.

Development of RBM brand building strategy to be presented at the 13th Board meeting –Engage external support –Call on expertise of various partners (with support from Board members) RBM Board members to support the establishment of a World Malaria Day by briefing delegates at the 60th World Health Assembly.
