Civil War affects Women’s Roles in Society A LITTLE BIT OF MATERIAL CULTURE

Women in Georgia  They took control of the home, farms, and business as the men left for war.  Women began to dress differently and use different tools to keep everything going.  They were clothes suitable for the work field or proper clothing to go work in the industry.  The things women were used to was about to change very quickly.

Work at Camps  Women began working on camps to help soldiers. They would cook for the men and tend to their wounds.  The right center picture is a portrait of a civil war nurse, and the outfit she would wear while working.

“Needle Women”  The women were known for making uniforms for the soldiers.

Women Working in Factories  Women went and found jobs in factories(and arsenals) that made supplies for the soldiers at war.  They made things from canisters for the men to drink water to the ammunition itself.
