Madison Middle School The Mission of the Madison Middle School is to provide all students personalized instruction by certified faculty through diverse class offerings in a technologically enhanced environment.

We will never reach new lands if we are afraid to leave the shore.

How did it all get started? What is an Integrated Studies classroom? It is a classroom designed to address today’s most rigorous math, science, and technology standards.

What does an Integrated Studies classroom look like? Our Integrated Studies classroom consists of 12 modules where students work in pairs to discover different occupations available to them in a technological world. What are the 12 Modules? Plastics and Polymers Plastics and Polymers Digital Graphics and Animation Digital Graphics and Animation Flight Technology Flight Technology CNC Manufacturing CNC Manufacturing Audio Broadcasting Audio Broadcasting Robotics Robotics Research and Design Research and Design Engineering Bridges Engineering Bridges Practical Skills Practical Skills Electricity Electricity Digital Video Digital Video Alternative Energy Alternative Energy

What do the students learn at each Module?

Plastics and Polymers In this unit students will explore the concepts of plastics and polymers. They will also discover uses for polymers and the technology used to recycle them.

Computer Graphics and Animation In this module students will work with different software to develop several digital assignments (morphing, stop motion animation, virtual reality).

Flight Technology In Flight Technology, students will identify factors that determine flight, build an air foil that can be tested, and use a flight simulator to practice flying. CNC Manufacturing In this module students will learn about the evolution of computer aided drafting and learn how to interface a computer with a machine. In this module students will learn about the evolution of computer aided drafting and learn how to interface a computer with a machine.

Audio Broadcasting Students will learn about the operation of a radio station and produce a 15 minute broadcast complete with commercials, news stories, music, commentary, and special effects. Students will learn about the operation of a radio station and produce a 15 minute broadcast complete with commercials, news stories, music, commentary, and special effects.

Robotics Students will learn of the history of robotics, how to manipulate a robotic arm and use a joystick to maneuver a robot to perform selected activities both with a computer program and remotely.

Research and Design In this module students will learn the relevance of specifications, design and create a CO2 dragster. Students will also use power tools to produce a dragster and do a performance assessment by racing their CO2 powered dragsters down a 70 foot track.

Engineering Bridges In this module students will design and construct a bridge out of balsa wood and learn about the jobs and responsibilities of architects and engineers. Students will test their bridges to see how many pounds they will hold.

Alternative Energy Students will learn about basic concepts of energy and about traditional and alternative energy sources. In this module they explore wind energy, biomass, and solar energy.

Digital Video Students will learn about the importance of computers in the digital editing process. Students will edit video that has been supplied and also create a news story where backgrounds need to be added.

Electricity In this module, students will learn about magnetism, motors, voltage, resistance and measurement.

Practical Skills Students will be learning about the proper use and safety of common hand tools, investigating various systems within a home, and performing activities that simulate common do-it-yourself household maintenance jobs.

Students have the opportunity to participate in 6 of the 12 modules per semester.

What do the students have to say?

Bailey Johnson “I like all the hands-on activities.”

James Clarke “We get to do different things like use the robots. I won’t probably ever get to do that anywhere else.”

Leo Farfan “It is a classroom where you get experience for future jobs. I like it.”

Lillie Johnson “It is a fun way to learn how to do new things.”

Samantha Olson “I liked building the cars the best.”

Chloe Nordling “Fun!!”
