Ad Sales I can identify the necessary elements in order to sale an ad. I can collaboratively create the necessary paperwork to sale an ad. I can successfully sale an ad.

Journal  Free write

Current events  Don't forget to include with your journal  Include all necessary info

What do you need and need to do to sell an ad?  Brainstorm with a partner.  Share brainstorms with the class.

Did we cover everything?  Dress appropriately  Carry contracts, past newspapers, pen  Ask for the manager or person in charge of advertising  Introduce yourself by name and name of publication  Comment on the store and its importance for teens or establish some kind of rapport with the manager before you try to sell him/her an ad  Show manager the size ad you are selling and samples of past ads  Ask the manager what size he/she would like to buy, not if he/she wants to buy (Don’t give manager a chance to say ‘no’). Let the manager know he/she can purchase one ad or get additional ads for a discount- Try to sell for the year if possible.  Do not take rejection personally if the manager does not want an ad.  If the business does want an ad, fill out information on contract, leaving nothing blank.  Get clean artwork or business card on a white or light-colored background; or ask if the business would like us to design the ad for them.  Thank the manager whether they bought an ad or not. Do not burn bridges.

Necessary paperwork  Brainstorm with a different partner-what information should an ad contract include?  Share with the class  Remember to always take copies of past papers and/or ad examples

With a small group or partner…  Create your own ad contract.  Create a flyer with ad sizes, prices, our contact info.  Create a phone script for selling ads over the phone.  Brainstorm businesses that you could possibly sell to.

Role play  With another group, role play an ad sales pitch.  One group should play the business manager and the other the advertiser.  Then find another group to switch roles.  Write the following and turn in…  Name 3 key elements in selling ads  What information should an ad contract include  List the reason(s) you bought or declined the ad of a particular group
