Chapter Briefing: The NPMA 2012 Jim Dieter, CPPM CF NPMA Executive Vice President May 2012

NPMA 2012 We realize the services and benefits of membership in the NPMA at four levels: – The Individual Member Level – The Chapter Level – The Affinity Group Level – The National Level Opportunities to participate and contribute are available at each level as well

The Individual Member Level Soon the NPMA Certification Program will itself be certified, bringing increased value to your current and future certifications The NPMA Foundation will this year provide a record number of members with a record amount of funding support to participate in important educational opportunities

The Individual Member Level The quality of NPMA conference and seminar events have realized significant achievements benefiting attendees and presenters New and improved publications, communications and social media sites both inform us and bring us closer together Member services are always a critical NPMA priority As we have grow and change, the “NPMA Family” atmosphere remains a core attribute and benefit for us all

Small Chapters Cal Poly Pomona Univ. Capital District Emerald Coast Garden State Golden Isles MOKAN Monte Diablo NY Upstaters Nutmeg Oregon Trail Qatar Saddleback Santa Barbara Island Sooner South Florida Victory Yankee

The Chapter Level Chapter level activities are the backbone of NPMA – The primary connection point of most members with the NPMA – Where networking and relationship building occur – Where new ideas are hatched and developed – Where leaders are developed

The Chapter Level New, more focused Chapter Support activities – Monthly presentations (like this one!) – Chapter budgeting tools – Upgraded chapter toolkit – Chapter Leadership Training Great chapter programs and networking activities provided across the country, and in war zones as well!

The Affinity Group Level In the past, we might have simply said “Regional” level here Now the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are emerging as significant value centers for existing and perspective members NPMA standards groups in conjunction with ASTM are a mature center for developing and distributing technical expertise and information

The Affinity Group Level Regions – Educational opportunities – Cooperation rather than competition – Chapter support – Developing leaders – Scholarships and other financial support

The Affinity Group Level Special Interest Groups (SIGs) – Supporting content tracks at the National Educational Seminar (NES) and conference series events – Developing networking communities – Sharing case studies and other research – Developing leaders – Developing and recognizing technical experts

The Affinity Group Level Standards Development and Education – A new generation of ASTM standards leaders – New approach to NPMA training on the standards is being developed – Leading the transition to “Asset Management” – US leadership position in the ISO effort

The National Level A thorough marketing study to help set the course going forward Member services and retention New member recruitment Financial stability, viability and visibility Broadened awards and recognition programs

The National Level We are a much larger organization with more resources and a larger budget than we were 40, 30, 20, or even 10 years ago Reviewing internal controls Assuring the adequacy and currency of bylaws and operating manuals Assuring the NPMA remains ready to operate and succeed for years to come

Next: The International Level Through our involvement in Asset Management Standards and other outreach efforts, we have engaged with a broad and differentiated Asset Management community both in other sectors in the US and internationally The highly anticipated ISO Asset Management Standard is nearing completion and is scheduled for publication in early 2014

Next: The International Level Asset Management social media sites, associations and organizations, and consultancies are appearing and flourishing around the world There has never been more opportunity in the Asset Management Profession The NPMA is your conduit and connection to these potentially transformational changes

Take Aways NPMA President Carl Iannacone, the entire the Executive Board and the home office staff are focused on fiscal responsibility, and meaningful and sensible improvements today to assure many bright tomorrows for the NPMA

Take Aways In Carl’s words, from his first Property Professional column as NPMA President: – “What can we do as an association to prepare you? – What can we do to help you in your job and career? – What can NPMA do today to strengthen and bring recognition to the property management profession?” “The answers to those question are the keys to the success of the NPMA.”

Take Aways Hope you will have the opportunity to travel to New Orleans and experience the NES this year Information on Conference Series events, chapter seminars and other educational opportunities are always available on the NPMA website, and are highlighted in the weekly Newsflash Thanks for your participation and contributions to the NPMA!!!
