LIGI Tecnologie Medicali was founded in 1993 by Giuseppe D’Ippolito and his wife Liliana Guarini, who was already trading in the ophthalmic market since 1986, with her own firm, selling disposable and consumables to public hospitals. Giuseppe D’Ippolito is an engineer with a specific passion for research and development in the medical field. The main reason to found LIGI Tecnologie Medicali was an idea by Giuseppe D’Ippolito, later on patented by LIGI Tecnologie Medicali, to drive the spot laser onto the cornea to plan and execute an ideal surgical profile customized to patients’ needs to optimize vision and minimize the treatment invasiveness. Company History 1993 – 1995 Ligi Period from 1993 to 2007 Reaching your destination requires knowing your starting point! In 1995, LIGI Tecnologie Medicali signed a first agreement with Lasersight Inc., Orlando - Florida - USA, the manufacturer of the LaserScan, the first flying-spot excimer laser introduced in the market, to develop a software for custom ablation. This allowed LIGI Tecnologie Medicali to drive their excimer laser to execute refractive and therapeutic custom profiles according to LIGI Tecnologie Medicali strategy. In the same year LIGI, Tecnologie Medicali entered a second agreement with Orbtek Inc., Salt Lake City – Utah – USA, manufacturer of the Orbscan, the first tomographer detecting the true corneal shape, to extract true corneal elevation data in order to plan refractive and therapeutic customized profiles according to LIGI Tecnologie Medicali strategy. In 1996 LIGI Tecnologie Medicali started the development of the CIPTA® software to plan refractive and therapeutic customized profiles. LIGI Tecnologie Medicali entered the laser vision correction market signing a distribution agreement for Italy with both LaserSight Inc. and Orbtek Inc. Software validation and clinical trials on the CIPTA® software were completed by 1997. In the same year, LIGI began installing in Italy platforms for customized refractive and therapeutic surgery composed of the Orbscan tomographer, produced by Orbtek Inc., to detect the corneal shape, the CIPTA® software to plan the ideal custom refractive and therapeutic ablation profiles and the Laserscan excimer laser produced by LaserSight Inc. to deliver the custom profiles. In 1999, LIGI Tecnologie Medicali patented the CIPTA® platform to customize refractive surgery. LIGI Tecnologie Medicali granted LaserSight Inc. a worldwide non-exclusive license to market the CIPTA® software together with the Laserscan excimer. In the same year, LIGI Tecnologie Medicali introduced in the market the CLAT® software to customize corneal lamellar transplantation. In 2002 LIGI Tecnologie Medicali decided to start an extensive R&D program that led to the iVis Suite™ platform. Differently from all competitors in the market, the R&D program of the iVis Suite™ was centered around the CIPTA® and CLAT® software to customize refractive and therapeutic surgery. The primary objective of the iVis Suite™ R&D was creating superior devices that would allow to exploit fully the surgical capabilities of CIPTA® and CLAT® and treating a wide array of cornel pathologies, untreatable with competitive systems. Company History 2008 – 2014 iVis Period from 2007 to 2014 Reaching your destination requires knowing your starting point! iVis Technologies was incorporated, as a spinoff of LIGI Tecnologie Medicali, to address the international marketing activities for the iVis Suite™. iVis Technologies marketing efforts focused on those surgeons showing great interest for innovating technologies in customized corneal no-touch surgery. The iVis Suite™ was installed worldwide, since 2008, in 9 countries (Italy, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Austria, Slovenia, Spain, Canada and Kenya).
