EDUCATION IN POLAND 2012

The inspection of teaching standards in Polish schools comes directly under the Ministry of Education and is represented by a regional administrative body (kuratorium).

The compulsory school age is from seven to sixteen. When children are seven they go to the primary school and learn there for six years.

They learn subjects such as: languages, Maths, Music, Art, Science, History and Physical Education.

Younger pupils from 7 to 9 get a descriptive mark for their achievements from their tutor. Older students get marks from 1 to 6 from their all teachers. The 6 mark is the best grade.

In the sixth class students take their first exam.

Then, students go to the junior high school. It lasts for three years.

In this school students learn subjects such as Chemistry, Social studies, Biology and Geography. In the last year of this school students take their final exam. It consists of two parts: humanistic and science.

After that, students who want to go to univeristy, go to a high secondary school or a technical school and learn there for three or four years. Then, most of them take Matura-exam which is also an entrance exam to university.

Universities require positive results of Matura-exam and good common of foreign languages. After three years of studies, students get a Bachelor’s Degree.

The title of Master may be obtained following the completion of two- year complementary magister-level courses.

After five or six years students may receive a Master's Degree. Equivalent titles include the field of: education, arts, architecture, medicine, dentistry and more.

In summary, though education in Poland is really complicated more and more young and old people want to study.
