Secretary’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report

And the Member of the Month for October is… Erica Hurt! We greatly appreciate Erica’s contribution to this club, which she is continuing to be a part of, and we all agreed that, even though everyone worked very hard at the Habitat for Humanity project (this was a hard decision to make), Erica had the proof of her hard work in her hair! Thank you, Erica!

Coins for Cassie We raised $66.12 – $33.12 was given in by you guys (A special thanks to the two people who donated $5), and Dr. Crihfield matched it with another $33. I am so proud of you guys and your dedication to help someone in need, especially since it is someone just like the rest of us. Overall, the school raised $1,400 and were able to buy some furniture for Cassie and her family!

Greyhound Project! Date: November 7 th (this Saturday!) Times: 10 – 3:30 Description: Marissa will now talk about the project and what we are going to do.

EcoPhone Project Rules: – We earn up to $300 per Cell Phone – We earn up to $5 per Ink Jet – They now pay for Laptops, MP3 Players & Digital Cameras – We get paid for every item - damaged & non-listed – The shipping is free – We can't give the accessories, but they love to receive batteries "With the average American replacing his/her cell phones every 12 months the problem is only growing worse. By 2008, an estimated 130 million cellular phones will be discarded annually in the U.S. alone. In addition, approximately 300 million ink jet printer cartridges are thrown away each year! The production of a single ink jet cartridge requires 2 and 1/2 ounces of oil. That's more than 6 million gallons of oil wasted each year.“ Basically, they get your phones/ink cartridges/jets and if they don't reuse them in their current state, they are destroyed and recycled. More than 80% of all electronics that EcoPhones receives are reusable and are therefore tested, reconditioned and sold in the United States. All information in whatever is donated is either swiped clean or destroyed in the process. It's a great way to earn money because they pay for them even it they are broken! It doesn't cost us anything to ship it and it saves the environment! No other fundraiser does that!

“Haitian Water” Video We are now going to watch a short video on a possible project….

Relay for Life April 17 th and 18 th, 2010 From 1 pm to 7 am

Relay for Life is an event to raise money for breast cancer awareness and breast cancer research an is run by the American Cancer Society. Ours is called Downtown Sarasota because there are over 400 Relays in Florida, and at least 5 in the Sarasota/Bradenton area Each year, there is a theme is picked; this year it is Decades for a Cure This year, me, Kristen, Marissa, and Emma will be running our teams’ Relay: we will attend Relay meetings and always get back to you on what is new. I have already meet with the Relay officers for Downtown Sarasota and they are really nice and willing to assist us in anything we need! And remember, raising money is easy!!!

Relay Continued… So, we need to get a jump on Relay this year to make it the best year ever! So far, these are your Relay Officers: Kylie Sterling = Captain Marissa Delany, Emma Ball, and Kristen Trinh = Co- Captains Ashley Profit and Danielle Puzzenchera = Possible fundraising captains If you would like to a Relay Officer, please come see me after this meeting! Also, the theme this year is Decades For a Cure! Please start thinking of ideas for which decade we are going to pick; our officers have already got a few good ones!

Fundraising Date! We are going to have a fundraising meeting, like we did last year. This is going to be on the December 1 st meeting! Plan on staying at the meeting later than a normal one, probably until 3:30 or 4, and we will give you more information at the next meeting.

See you next meeting!!!
