3 TIA-568-C.0-2 Generic Structured Cabling Addendum 2 –Publication was approved after 2 nd default ballot comments were resolved TIA-942-A Data Centers default ballot comments resolved –Needs to go to a 2 nd default ballot Cable types under access floors In some jurisdictions, plenum-rated cable is the minimum requirement for telecommunications cabling under computer room access floors. Consult the AHJ before deciding on the type of cable to use under access floors. NOTE – This standard references applicable requirements relating to fire, health and safety. In addition, consider the selection of cable types and fire suppression practices that minimize damage in the event of fire. Educational Facilities Task Group to continue development –Plan to send an outgoing liaison to BICSI educational facilities TR-42.1 Generic Cabling and Commercial Building Cabling

4 Large Building Task Group renamed to Places of Assembly Task Group with work to continue –Focus on Places of Assembly will be as follows: A-1 fixed seating typically performing arts, theatres etc …, A-2 food/drink consumption – restaurants A-3 places of assembly/recreation/amusement/worship or other assembly (e.g. passenger terminals) A-4 sports/spectator (indoor) A-5 outdoor venues Data Center Fabric Task Group reviewed a first draft of TIA-942-A-1 –Addendum describes a variety of data center fabric architectures described in industry white papers and switch manufacturers TR-42.1 Generic Cabling and Commercial Building Cabling

5 Was agreed to form a new joint task group with TR-42.9 to create a response to the end-to-end link qualification –Potential problems with current end-to-end link at plug and jack/equipment connection Next Gen (connector and cable) task groups were combined to investigate specific performance metrics –Two draft proposals were discussed for TIA-568-C.2-1 (next Generation Cabling) Link cabling survey was inconclusive and results varied significantly –TG agreed survey became too burdensome to achieve any meaningful results –Sent survey initiative back to TR-42.7 and allow it to focus on copper media TR-42.7 Copper Cabling Systems

6 Encircled Flux contributions –Round Robin progress report given –Two contributions on issues related to launch conditions Document Maintenance –4 TIA FOTPs on jitter need attention, may adopt IEC standard –2 TSBs, one on RML Bandwidth will be rescinded, the other on transmission techniques will be revised TR Optical Fiber Systems

7 Discussion items Bend-insensitive multimode fiber – task list & work schedule, core parameter definitions, connection loss, bandwidth Fiber geometry measurement – core size and numerical aperture –Contributions were presented on suggested revisions for both core size and numerical aperture (Discussion to continue) Agreed to rescind the old TIA-492-series which are the detailed SM fiber specifications and adapt IEC TR Fiber Optics and Cabling

12 IEEE NG 100G (Study Group formed in July 2011) There is a market need for higher density front panel interfaces to support bandwidth growth demand and to reduce cost and power of 100G optics: –Module electrical Interface density can be increased –MMF port density can be increased –SMF port density can be increased LAN application update

13 Reduced Pair 1 Gb/s Ethernet –Global automotive industry has begun to deploy Ethernet into vehicles as a backbone for all data services –It is estimated that over 500 million Ethernet nodes will be present in cars by 2018 –Copper focused but opportunity for fiber? Extended reach 40GBASE-R PMD –40Gb/s Ethernet is being applied to an increasing variety of applications, some of which require a longer reach than the 10km provided by 40GBASE-LR4 Ethernet WDM Aggregation Network –IEEE Std EPON is the world's most successful access technology –not all service providers have the fiber resources to adequately serve their customers with these technologies –There is interest in technology that allows more than 10 customers to have a dedicated gigabit service delivered over a single fiber trunk LAN application update

14 OM1 removed from future structured cabling standards –WG3 decided to accept UK proposal to remove OM1 as recommended medium for structured cabling standards OM2 expected to be removed from future Fiber Channel standards –Fibre Channel indicated that for the current FC-PI-6 it is expected that OM2 will be removed as recommended media for data centre applications Misc.
