Telematics

Telematics 1 'Telematics' typically is any integrated use of telecommunications and Information technology|informatics, also known as ICT (Information and Communications Technology). Hence the application of telematics is with any of the following:

Telematics 1 * Telematics includes but is not limited to Global Positioning System technology integrated with computers and mobile communications technology in automotive navigation systems.

Telematics 1 * Most narrowly, the term has evolved to refer to the use of such systems within road vehicles, in which case the term 'vehicle telematics' may be used.

Telematics - History 1 As combined, the term telematics describes the process of long-distance transmission of computer-based information

Telematics - Vehicle telematics 1 # The convergence of telecommunications and information processing, the term later evolved to refer to automation in automobiles, such as the invention of the emergency warning system for vehicles. GPS navigation, integrated hands-free cell phones, wireless safety communications and automatic driving assistance systems all are covered under the telematics umbrella.

Telematics - Vehicle telematics 1 While this definition suggests a more universally applicable technology as a superset of M2M (Machine to Machine) connectivity, and as part of an intelligent network of connected things, the term is typically associated with the vehicle market. cle/ /telematics-linking-the-future- now

Telematics - Practical applications of vehicle telematics 1 Vehicle telematics can help improve the efficiency of an organization. Some practical applications of vehicle telematics include;

Telematics - Cold store 1 Cold store freight trailers that are used to deliver fresh or frozen foods are increasingly incorporating telematics to gather time-series data on the temperature inside the cargo container, both to trigger alarms and record an audit trail for business purposes. An increasingly sophisticated array of sensors, many incorporating RFID technology, are being used to ensure that temperature throughout the cargo remains within food- safety parameters.

Telematics - Fleet management 1 Fleet (vehicle) Management can include a range of Fleet Management functions, such as vehicle financing, vehicle maintenance, vehicle telematics (tracking and diagnostics), driver management, fuel management, health safety management and dynamic vehicle scheduling. ealtime.htm Real-time scheduling using GPS Fleet Management is a function which allows companies which rely on transportation in their business to remove or minimize the risks associated with vehicle investment, improving efficiency, productivity and reducing their overall transportation costs, providing 100% compliancy with government legislation and Duty of Care obligations

Telematics - Fleet management 1 The Association of Equipment Management Professionals (AEMP) successfully developed the industry's first Telematic Standard [

Telematics - Fleet management 1 This group worked from February 2009 through September 2010 to develop the industry's first standard for the delivery of telematics data. _AEMP_Telematics_Data_Standard_Supp ort_Site/AEMP_Standard_Blog/Entries/20 10/10/15_Telematic_standard_update.html

Telematics - Fleet management 1 As of November 1, 2010, Caterpillar, Volvo CE, John Deere Construction Forestry, OEM Data Delivery, and Navman Wireless are able to support customers with delivery of basic telematics data in a standard xml format

Telematics - Fleet management 1 This option was cumbersome and labor- intensive. t.com/article/telematics-turns-corner

Telematics - Fleet management 1 in addition, another API had to be developed any time another brand of machine or telematics device was added to the fleet.

Telematics - Fleet management 1 :A third option for mixed-fleet integration was to replace the various factory-installed telematics devices with devices from a third party telematics provider

Telematics - Fleet management 1 Because one API can retrieve data from any participating telematics provider, as opposed to the unique API for each provider that was required previously, integration development costs are greatly reduced. The_AEMP_Telematics_Data_Standard_S upport_Site/About_the_Standard.html

Telematics - Satellite navigation 1 Satellite navigation in the context of vehicle telematics is the technology of using a GPS and electronic mapping tool to enable the driver of a vehicle to locate a position, plan a route and navigate a journey.

Telematics - Mobile data 1 Ever since then, thanks to the cellular providers that offered low GPRS (2.5G) and later UMTS (3G) rates, mobile data is almost totally offered to telematics customers by cellular communication.

Telematics - Wireless vehicle safety communications 1 Wireless vehicle safety communications telematics aid in car safety and road safety. It is an electronic sub-system in a car or other vehicle for the purpose of exchanging safety information, about such things as road hazards and the locations and speeds of vehicles, over short range radio links. This may involve temporary Ad Hoc wireless local area networks.

Telematics - Emergency warning system for vehicles 1 Emergency warning systems for vehicles telematics are developed particularly for international harmonisation and standardisation of vehicle-to-vehicle, infrastructure-to-vehicle, and vehicle-to- infrastructure real-time Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) systems.

Telematics - Emergency warning system for vehicles 1 By use of telematics as applied to intelligent vehicle technologies, instantaneous direction travel cognizance of a vehicle may be transmitted in real- time to surrounding vehicles traveling in the local area of vehicles equipped (with EWSV) to receive said warning signals of danger.

Telematics - Intelligent vehicle technologies 1 Telematics comprise electronic, electromechanical, and electromagnetic devices — usually silicon micromachined components operating in conjunction with computer controlled devices and radio transceivers to provide precision repeatability functions (such as in robotics Artificial Intelligence systems) emergency warning validation performance reconstruction.

Telematics - Car clubs 1 Some systems show users where to find an idle vehicle.[ bicycle-sharing-system/19153/ Gizmag] Sharing system Car Clubs such as Australia's [ Charter Drive] use telematics to monitor and report on vehicle use within pre- defined geofence areas, in order to demonstrate the reach (advertising)|reach of their transit media car club fleet.

Telematics - Auto insurance 1 Other benefits can be delivered to end users with Telematics2.0 based telematics as customer engagement can be enhanced with direct customer interaction

Telematics - Auto insurance 1 According to ABI Research global insurance telematics subscriptions could exceed 107 million in 2018, up from 5.5 million at the end of 2013.[ obal-insurance-telematics-subscriptions- to-excee Global Insurance Telematics Subscriptions to Exceed 100 million by 2018, but Auto Insurance Faces Dramatic Changes], ABI Research

Telematics - Auto insurance 1 Recent theoretical economic research on the social welfare effects of Progressive's telematics technology business process patents have questioned whether the business process patents are Pareto efficiency|pareto efficient for society. Preliminary results suggest that it is not, but more work is needed.

Telematics - Telematics education 1 A project entitled the European Automotive Digital Innovation Studio (EADIS) has been awarded 400,000 Euros from the European commission under its Leonardo da Vinci programme. EADIS will use a virtual work environment called the Digital Innovation Studio to train and develop professional designers in the automotive industry in the impact and application of ‘vehicle telematics’ so that they may integrate new technologies into future products within the automotive industry.

Fleet telematics system 1 A 'Fleet Telematics System' ('FTS') allows the information exchange between a commercial vehicle Fleet vehicle|fleet and their central authority, i.e., the dispatching office

Telematics2.0 - Concept 1 Telematics|Telematic usage based insurance (i.e

Telematics2.0 - Potential drawbacks 1 * Some systems use continuous GPS tracking of vehicles, which a consumer may believe infringes on their privacy. rance-company-telematics-trade-perks-for-privacy/ Research has also indicated that consumer tracking (driving destinations) may also be possible with only features such as speed and distance driven.Threat to Privacy Found in Auto Insurance 'Pay as You Drive' Programs, htm[ /MyPapers/Conferences/2013WPES-Extended.pdf Inferring Trip Destinations from Driving Habits Data] by Dewri et al

Telematics2.0 - Allstate 1 Allstate said its usage-based insurance measures things such as mileage, braking, speed, and time of day when a customer is driving. Using that data, Allstate calculates a driving discount for each customer using its telematics technology.

Telematics2.0 - Patents 1 In September 2010 Progressive Auto Insurance filed a declaratory judgment lawsuit against Hughes Telematics to have several its patents covering OBDII mounted wireless data loggers declared invalid. Progressive uses these devices from a competitive supplier, Xirgo Technologies.[ Patent QA Declaratory Judgment, Insurance IP Bulletin, October 2010]

Telematics2.0 - Impaired driving 1 The use of telematics to detect drunk driving and Texting while driving has been proposed.[ m/pdfs/stamford_advocate_sober_teen.pdf Harold Davis “’Black Box’ idea travels to cars”, The News-Times, 5/22/09] A US patent application combining this technology with a usage based insurance product was open for public comment on peer to patent.[ /activity US patent application “SoberTeen driving insurance”]

Telematics for Libraries Program 1 A program of the European Commission, the 'Telematics for Libraries Program' has the ambitious aim of unifying access to information throughout the nations of Europe. This program was launched in 1990 and has since established numerous projects to facilitate in this goal. At the time of its enactment, the Telematics for Libraries Program sought to establish four complementary objectives:

Telematics for Libraries Program 1 *Technology-based library products and services[ n/intro.html CREATING A EUROPEAN LIBRARY SPACE-TELEMATICS FOR LIBRARIES PROGRAMMES ], Feb. 3,

Telematics for Libraries Program 1 One final example of a program through the Telematics for Libraries Program is the Cultivate UK Web portal

Telematics for Libraries Program 1 Throughout the 1990s, 820 proposals were submitted under the Telematics for Libraries Program throughout Europe, and 82 projects were launched involving over 400 individual organizations. This program continues to promote programs whose ultimate goal is to create a more user-friendly and integrated environment for information seekers throughout Europe.

Telematics 'Telematics 2.0' is the name for smartphone based telematics technology for auto insurance. ematics Telematics 2.0 utilises smartphone based sensors rather than black-box devices used in the traditional PAYD insurance industry. Telematics 2.0 solutions hit the consumer market in 2012/3 with solutions being offered by leading auto insurers such as AIG in the US. es/2013/02/19/ htm
