SUBJECT/OBJECT
Certain pronouns need to be used as subjects in a sentence, while others may only be used as objects. SUBJECT: The thing DOING SOMETHING in the sentence (if it begins the sentence, it is probably a subject). OBJECT: The inactive thing (if it follows a preposition or appears near the end, it is probably an object). PRONOUN: is a noun that represents another noun (He, she, me, what) ANTECEDENT: The thing a pronoun refers to (He is flying—the antecedent of HE could be Superman)
Noun Complements Nouns that rename the pronoun (it is I, vs. It is me). While both are common, “It is I” is somewhat more accepted and formal. -The girl with a tattoo was she. -The voices in the dark were we. Notice that SUBCONS act like noun complements - I know what she said.
Than When people compare using the word “Than” they are creating a second clause that might have an invisible verb. Thus the subject form in these clauses is necessary. – Do you have more cookies than I (do)? Avoid saying “Do you have more cookies than me?”
