Food for Life 2.0 Everyone should get a chance to take prasadam!

What is Food for Life? It IS: A program for distributing prasadam to EVERYONE, that is packaged and executed according to time, place and circumstance. It is NOT: A program for feeding the poor

The Basis of KCM “The Krishna consciousness movement is based on this principle: chant the Hare Krishna mantra at every moment, as much as possible, both inside and outside of the temples, and, as far as possible, distribute prasada. This process can be accelerated with the cooperation of state administrators and those who are producing the country's wealth. Simply by liberal distribution of prasada and sankirtan, the whole world can become peaceful and prosperous.” (SB Purport)

1. As Far as Possible “…as far as possible, distribute prasada” “…as far as possible, distribute prasada” “ Everyone should get a chance to take prasadam...” ( CC Antya lila 1.32 pp ), “ Everyone should get a chance to take prasadam...” ( CC Antya lila 1.32 pp ), “ this activity [prasadam distribution] should be expanded universally...” ( CC Mad ) “ this activity [prasadam distribution] should be expanded universally...” ( CC Mad )

2. The Strategy “This process can be accelerated with the cooperation of state administrators and those who are producing the country’s wealth.” “This process can be accelerated with the cooperation of state administrators and those who are producing the country’s wealth.”

FFL opens the door “My idea is, I want to draw the attention of the authorities. If they cooperate, then we can push on our movement more vigorously. We are doing it on a small scale. It is going on. But if we get the support of the authorities, we can push on in a larger scale” ( Lilamrita Vol. 6 p. 65). “My idea is, I want to draw the attention of the authorities. If they cooperate, then we can push on our movement more vigorously. We are doing it on a small scale. It is going on. But if we get the support of the authorities, we can push on in a larger scale” ( Lilamrita Vol. 6 p. 65). “…if the leaders of present day society can be persuaded of our beneficial working for the human welfare, and if they help us somehow to spread what they have learned from us to the people in general, that is the point to be considered...(SP letter to Damodara January 9, 1973). “…if the leaders of present day society can be persuaded of our beneficial working for the human welfare, and if they help us somehow to spread what they have learned from us to the people in general, that is the point to be considered...(SP letter to Damodara January 9, 1973).

3. Benediction “Simply by liberal distribution of prasada and sankirtan, the whole world can become peaceful and prosperous.”

Where is that quote? SB Purport

Why deny or discourage? Debates on the methods and strategies used to do prasadam distribution are unproductive Debates on the methods and strategies used to do prasadam distribution are unproductive The FACT IS: people are getting prasadam The FACT IS: people are getting prasadam Personally, I don’t waste my time arguing anymore Personally, I don’t waste my time arguing anymore

Everyone? How can we practically carry out Prabhupada’s desire that EVERYONE get a chance to take prasadam? There are only so many devotees There are only so many devotees There are only so many cooks There are only so many cooks Not enough money Not enough money

Midday Meals Millions of meals daily Millions of meals daily Still, more than 30,000 children die of malnutrition Still, more than 30,000 children die of malnutrition 60 Jumbo Jet crashes daily! 60 Jumbo Jet crashes daily!

Start with 1.ENCOURAGE what is going on 2.INVEST in prasadam distribution 3.Always try to BUILD ON your success

50% of our income “... The attempt must go on to convert unwilling men to become His devotees. Lord Caitanya has taught a very simple method in this connection. He has taught the lesson for preaching the transcendental message through singing, dancing and refreshment. As such, fifty percent of our income may be spent for this purpose” (SB ).

Change the paradigm Consider this: 1.ISKCON doesn’t own the patent on prasadam? 2.Lord Chaitanya’s mercy is available to everyone 3.Everyone is a devotee of Krishna

Empowerment By leading by example and also teaching people the culture of spiritual hospitality we can more efficiently expand prasadam distribution far beyond the limited capacities of the institution By leading by example and also teaching people the culture of spiritual hospitality we can more efficiently expand prasadam distribution far beyond the limited capacities of the institution Have a more INCLUSIVE attitude Have a more INCLUSIVE attitude

A Vaisnava’s compassion, knows no limit it is said, “Oceanic and sweet — distinguished as gold, not lead. Such compassion, you’ll not find in the mundane welfare realm, it emanates from the heart — and has the ability to overwhelm. Dispelling dryness and insecurity, from the hearts of “homeless souls,” Instilling faith in the faithless — establishing spiritual goals. Although externally appearing, like many other missions, the essence we’re preserving — through transcendental vision. Simply saving shirts (or bodies), neglecting swimmer (the soul), “is a waste of valuable time,” we are emphatically told! Our aim is to go deeper — our service personalized, become expert in both realms, “complete welfare” combined! No need to be fanatical, our mission is foretold — “In every town and village,” inundating the young, the poor and the old!
