MODULE CHECKLIST  Read about work opportunities  Read about brainstorming for employers  Read about Resumes  Review Resources  Complete worksheet: Brainstorming

If you have arrived at this module, it is because you decided you need some more education. Many professions start out as interns or employed by others so they can learn practical and working application of their schooling. If you have ended up here, you don’t have to be disappointed or embarrassed, it is the appropriate step to be taking toward a lifetime career. You may want to go ahead and go through the rest of the business plans now and later. Knowing who you will be working with and the type of business you want to start will help you to narrow down who you should work for. On the following pages you can expect to learn where to apply, how to apply and what to look for in an employer. “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” Benjamin Franklin INTRODUCTION

You want to be remembered. Most potential employers are barraged with applications and resumes when they are looking for a new employee. Any effort you make in researching the business you are applying for, understanding the position you are filling and then putting your knowledge, skills and special talents into a statement, will pay off in huge dividends. Employers are looking for someone who will make their business run smoother, be more profitable and will make their jobs easier. That is the most important message to convey. Be sure to highlight all of your skills and achievements, without going overboard in details. Remove any skills that don’t apply to them. It will make it easier for them to see what you offer. Your resume should be free from typos, poor vocabulary and it should be clean and fresh. RESUMES
