REDUCE REDUCE REUSE REUSE RECYCLE RECYCLE E-MAS continues its 3R Philosphy as part of its commitment to environmental protection.

 Modified existing installations to reduce building facilities power supply consumption  Reduced operation time for lighting and air- conditioning system; timer-controlled  Switched to energy saving lighting Building Energy Saving Programme

Lower building energy consumption  RM800,000 less electricity used per year

Building Energy Saving Programme – Main Workshop

 Trains are switched off during stabling  As much driving as possible in coasting mode  Brake early, with not more that 40% braking force  Use the electrical regenerative brake  Traction effort not more than 80% Train Operations Energy Saving

Lower energy cost per trip – 5.3% reduction  RM487,000 less electricity used per year

Note : kWh increased after introduction of speed restrictions & additional train trips

 Introduced environmental friendly train washing system  70-90% less chemicals, water & electricity used  Looking into rain water collection from building roofs Train Washing Plant

Comparison between Kärcher & Britannia Train Washing System Train Washing System

 Replacement of wheel from 200,000 kilometres to 2 million kilometres  Purchase of new wheels reduced from 480 wheels to 50 per year Wheel Life Extension

Extending wheel life  Savings of 120 tonnes of steel per year

 Replacement of dampers from 1 million kilometres to 1.4 million kilometres, resulting in annual saving of RM80,000  Replacement of primary suspension from 600,000 kilometres to 1.4 million kilometres, giving annual saving of RM560,000 Dampers & Primary Suspension Life Extension

 Overhaul exercise from 1.5 million kilometres to 3.0 million kilometres, resulting in saving of RM1.3 million per overhaul Gearbox Life Extension
