Envisionment Ebba Thora Hvannberg
Objective To use different methods to envision design problems and different solutions Understand how you can use scenarios to envision design Select and use appropriate prototype technology To understand main factors of describing design
Example design – how can you transfer to user interface A car designer has been commissioned to produce a new luxury sports car. He or she doodles a few designs on paper and shows them to other designers on the team. They make some comments and criticisms and as a result changes are made. Finally the designer is satisfied with one of the designs and draws up detailed blueprints that are given to the firm’s model maker. Scale models are produced and sent to Marketing and Sales for customer reaction. The scale models are also subjected to wind tunnel experiments to investigate the aerodynamics of the design and the results are used in a computer program that will calculate the car’s speed and fuel efficiency.
Envisionment Process Review the requirements and the conceptual scenarios Write a concrete scenario, storyboards of the main interaction sequences and snapshot sketches of key screens. Experiment with different metaphors Use claims analysis or Questions/Options/Criterias to evaluate Reconsider requirements
Sketches and snapshots Make a draft or sketches of user interfaces Focus on the overview, then look at details, and filter out those that do not apply. Finally fill in the details.
Story boards of system interactions Sequences of scenarios Use a scenario to help you select the frames Write text for the frames
Navigation maps Used especially when user interfaces become complex. Show associations between individual pages.
Prototyping Low-fi prototyping – Can be a paper prototype Hi-fi prototyping – Is developed in the same development environment as the final product Video prototyping Some like it hot, Wilson et al – = &CFTOKEN=
