Advanced Algebra II Notes 3.2 Revisiting Slope Balloon Blastoff   Connect calculator by linking cable to the Ranger. Press [APPS] choose CBL/CBR Select RANGER. If CBL/CBR is not there, press [PRGM] and in submenu EXEC, arrow down to RANGER. Press ENTER to see the MAIN MENU and Select 1. SETUP/SAMPLE. Set REALTIME: to No. Arrow down to TIME(S). Enter the Number of seconds (recommended: 2) Press ENTER. Set BEGIN ON: to [TRIGGER]. Arrow up to START NOW and press ENTER. Press ENTER again for more instructions. You may disconnect CBR if you like. Aim CBR at the rock. Begin collecting data just before motion begins by pushing TRIGGER. Reconnect CBR to calculator and press ENTER. To transmit the data to another calculator: connect it to the CBR, start the RANGER program, choose 5:TOOLS from the MAIN MENU, and select: 1:GET CBR DATA, Enter.

Procedure:   Make a rocket of paper and tape. Rocket must be large enough to hold an inflated balloon. Attach the rocket, using tape, to the straw on the string. Inflate the balloon, hold it closed (do not die it off) and when the Monitor presses the TRIGGER, let go of the balloon.

Graph using the data from the CBR and STAT PLOT, graph the data with time as the independent (x) variable. What are the DOMAIN and RANGE of your data? ___________ ___________ Select four points that you feel will most accurately represent the slope, and using these points, calculate the slope. _______________________________________ What is the real world meaning of the slope? _____________________________ Write an equation of the rocket’s distance x seconds after it is released. ______________________________________________________ Sketch the graph of the flight of your rocket.

Daron’s car gets 20 miles per gallon of gas Daron’s car gets 20 miles per gallon of gas. He starts out with a full tank of 16.4 gallons. He watches the gas gauge to see how much gas he has left.   Independent variable: _____________________________ Dependent variable: _____________________________ b) Write a linear equation in intercept form to model the situation. _____________________________________________ c) How much gas will be left after he drives 175 miles? _________ d) How far can he travel before he has less than 2 gallons left? _________
