OUR PROJECT? Ensuring the sustainability of the Domestic and International Logistics Industry in Victoria How?  Encouraging school-leavers to join a booming industry.  Focusing on career, not job!  Combining Qualification and Work Experience  Weekly, on-the-job training and mentoring  Promoting articulation beyond Certificate to Diploma and Degree

WHY LOGISTICS?  Transport and Logistics is in the top 3 employers and economic drivers in Victoria  Key Critical to the Victorian Economy

WHY LOGISTICS? Port of Melbourne the largest container port in Australia

WHY LOGISTICS? Melbourne Airport is the Domestic Airfreight hub and will be the International freight hub

WHY LOGISTICS?  Melbourne is central to 70% of Australia’s population  Massive infrastructure in warehousing and distribution  Logistics task will double in the next 15 years and quadruple by 2033  The Australian Economy needs a powerful Victorian Logistics Industry

FUTURE FORCE Priorities  Attract school graduates to office-based careers within Local and Multi-National Logistics Companies  Education on-the-job to Certificate IV  At an appropriate career point, deliver Advanced Diploma, on-the-job.  Encourage Degree studies for those keen and capable to go forward

Results so far?  Almost 300 Year12 graduates now qualified to Certificate III-IV level and working in over 90 Logistics companies, large and small.  100% retention by Host Companies on graduation from our programs  As a result, the immediate future of the Industry is much more secure

NEXT STEPS?  Continue with office-based push.  Promote hands-on Warehousing and Distribution roles  Expand beyond current host companies to Road, Rail and related industries

NEXT STEPS?  In 2009, conduct facilities tours at ports and airports for Educators  Continue appeals to Educators to promote the Logistics Industry on the grounds of a stronger Victorian Economy and excellent career opportunities
