Development of a Training Programme Identify Need Specification Target Costs Outcomes Course Programme Training Delivery Review and Monitor Outcomes In the development of a trainig programme there is always the temptation to jump in and start a powerpoint presentation (Death by Powerpoint). Control needs to be exercised, and a number of steps need to be undertaken to ensure that the training is appropriate and effective The first step is to identify the need. There are different types of need. Maybe we don’t know how to do something (what are the standards, so we know we are meeting them). Maybe something has happened that clearly indicates a porblem; an accident or an inconsistency with the quality of patching or agresso payments. Maybe something Needs to change (a swtich in work practices or a new structure). Maybe an opportunity has been identified and we need to upskill to exploit that opportunity. The next step is to figure out and specify what we want. Who needs to be trained. What are the standards, best practices.

Training Programme Requirements A good training programme should have Clear Objectives with regard to Cognitive/ Skills Learning Outcomes Attitude Outcomes Behavioural Outcomes Well defined target audience Appropriate training methodologies An evaluation framework Evaluation of Leaner outcomes Evaluation of Training Programme

Target Learner Group Primary Target Group Secondary Target Group Previous Learning Experience Aptitude Secondary Target Group Course may be useful for Training methodology Must be appropriate to the Primary Target Group Classroom Demonstration On the Job Important that control is kept over content Everything may be nice to know, but Key items may get lost in the information overload Better to be able to do a smaller number of items well Provided minimum requirements of course met Review and assess Learner Outcomes

Certification for Training Allows the level of knowledge, skill and competence to be specified for occupational roles Allows informed evaluation of qualifications Simplifies application/ assignment process Connects business/ sectoral needs with training development and delivery Allows certification/ recognition of in-house/ on the job training cpd Supports performance and continuous improvement Added value to Employee resource Efficient migration of skills internally and between employers to address business need and potential Beneficial in generating a team environment Generates a common exchange platform for work processes Implement organisational change/ reform
