Welcome to Lao PDR

Strategy 1: Develops the quality of teachers education curriculum and consistent with general education curriculum Objective : -To improve quality and consistent of teachers education curriculum for every subjects, such as the consistent with needs learning with general education curriculum and according to local as well as can be linked with regional and international. Strategy 2: Develops the quality of teaching in Teacher Training College. Objective : - To improve the standard of teaching at the Teacher Training Colleges by creating capacities and improve professional skills for teacher staff including the strategy for selection Qualifying new teacher in Teacher Training Colleges. - To improve the infrastructure and Learning Environmental in Teacher Training Colleges. I. The Strategy For Teacher Education in Lao PDR

Strategy 3: Providing upgrade teacher on system for developing teacher professional continues. Objective : - To guarantee support on-going and a system for teacher by multiple ways, focusing on teachers can develop professional skills step by step and Consistent with his careers path. - To make the training system for normal teacher has a quality and more efficient. - To guarantee the cooperation between the Department of Education, Department of preschool and elementary education, Department of Secondary Education, Teacher Training College and Trainers locally to make them run training for normal teachers.

Strategy4: Strengthen to ensure quality on standard of graduates from the TTC and improve administrative management in TTC Objective : - To guarantee certification of qualified graduates from TTC by the certificate has high standards qualification. - To improve capacity for managing administration of administrators in TTC (Director and major personnel) Through the appropriate training. -To prepare the personnel teaching and Ensure integration with the education system in the region and internationally. Strategy5: Guarantee to plan, Covered on demand and providing teachers to coordinate well. Along with selected students who learned well come to study in TTC. Objective : Guaranteed to response teachers to achieved actual needs teachers, Especially teachers in remote areas focusing ensure Providing of learning quality for every students.

II. Development Curriculum for Teacher Education in Lao PDR  Now a day, the Teacher Education Curriculum has three types and three levels such as: 1. Kindergarten teacher education curriculum ( 3 levels: Intermediate = 9+3 system, diploma = 12+2 system and Bachelor degree = 12+4 system) 2. Primary teacher education curriculum ( 3 levels: Intermediate = 9+3 system, diploma = 12+2 system and Bachelor degree = 12+4 system) 3. Secondary Teacher Education curriculum, Bachelor Degree (12+4 system)

The Higher Education There are 4 public national Universities : 1.Souphanouvong University 2.Champasak University 3.Dongdok Inetrnational University 4.Savannakhet University

IV. Development Curriculum for Kindergarten in Dongkhamxang Teacher Training College (DTTC) Background Information: The kindergarten teacher training curriculum (8+3 system) has been improved since the former attached kindergarten school in the Donggdok Campus, it is only the intermediate degree course. Now, Dongkhamxang Teacher Training College has developed the Kindergarten education including the Intermediate, Diploma, and Bachelor Degrees as the followings:

Teacher’s Roles and Functions Kindergarten Teachers Curriculum development in 3 fields: -Short-term System (30 weeks for Intermediate Degree) System for intermediate Degree System for Diploma Degree.

Study course Credits Continuing System 8+3 includes 56 credits Continuing System includes 76 credits 9+3 System includes 110 credits 12+2 System includes 89 credits 12+4 System includes148 credits

V. Teaching – learning Improvement in DTTC Assess the teaching-learning of teachers who graduated from DTTC. Analyses the result of assessment to improve the curriculum and Teaching methods Provide many activities to promote teaching- learning process Improve and provide the exchange for teachers to up-grade and join the trainings for their teaching improvement

Teaching-Learning Activities 1. Theory: - Advise, Explain, discuss, Practice, observe, groups and individual report. - Study Information from the library and the internet

Authentic teaching practicum - Observe the real teaching, practice making the lesson plan and creating the teaching Aids. - Teach in groups or individual in the class. - Practice Real teaching in attached school. - Experience training and real teaching practice in the attached school and other schools’ services to the DTTC

VI. International Cooperation - DTTC has received some scholarship for training in IBARAKI Province, Japan through the SVA project. - DTTC has coordinated with JICA to work with Japanese Volunteers. - DTTC has coordinated with NCA in Laos to make the teaching Aids in the class and laboratory room to learn about human values and water value.

International Cooperation (Cont) Coordinated with Nha Trang University in Vietnam to train Kindergarten and Pre-school teachers. Coordinated with Nha Trang University, Vietnam to train Kindergarten and Pre-school teachers. Coordinated with International children’s fund organization located in Laos to train Kindergarten and Pre-school teachers (who come from remote areas) in the intensive kindergarten course.

Services for Students - All of students must register their study and accomplish their subjects credits as specified in the DTTC syllabus.

VII. Problems and Challenges for Curriculum Development in DTTC 1. DTTC has not enough classrooms. 2. The students’ basic knowledge is limited 3. DTTC has not enough materials or teaching Aids. 4. Some teachers lack of the knowledge in technology. 5. The teachers’ professional Knowledge is still limited. 6. DTTC has not enough and budget for its administration
