THE TUTU PROJECT A BOB CAREY PHOTOGRAPHY CREATION MEDIA KIT | FEBRUARY 2013

THE TUTU PROJECT

For professional photographer Bob Carey and his wife Linda, a man-sized pink tutu has taken on incredible meaning as their unique way to help women with the fight against breast cancer. “Ballerina” started in 2003 as a black and white self-portrait of Bob wearing a custom-made tutu as part of a fund raiser. The New York photographer, whose wife is battling the disease, continued to take self-portraits by going out into the world wearing that pink tutu and nothing else on his hairy, un-buff bod. ABOUT THE PROJECT

In March of 2012, the overwhelmingly positive reaction to Bob's photographs inspired them to raise funds to self-publish a book of the images entitled Ballerina, and thus began The Tutu Project. Funds were raised by selling limited edition prints and other products. A portion of net proceeds from book sales will be donated to breast cancer organizations. Ongoing fund raising will support The Carey Foundation for women with breast cancer. In October 2012, the NFL and Bloomingdales stores nationwide featured The Tutu Project as their leading symbol for breast cancer awareness. MISSION

ABOUT BOB CAREY PHOTOGRAPHY BOB CAREY is a New York-based photographer who specializes in conceptual and environmental portraiture. In addition to gallery shows, he has contributed to publications such as O, The Oprah Magazine; Essence magazine; ForbesLife; and Men's Health, as well as ad campaigns for Lexus and MasterCard. Bob was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and has been making photographs since the age of 17. His passion for creating imagery and his efforts towards self- expression have been two of the driving forces in his life. LINDA CAREY has worked for 18+ years as a manager and still photography producer managing multi- faceted projects. Linda has produced commercial and editorial assignments, managed fine art openings and gallery relationships for Bob Carey Photography. In 2003, after 42 years of living in Phoenix, the Carey’s relocated to Brooklyn, New York to experience life in a different and culturally diverse environment. Carey’s photography continued on the same path of self-examination and transformation and he began to photograph himself dressed as a ballerina in a pink tutu. The first image was created one day in a vast, desolate landscape during their journey to New York City. The Tutu Project was started in 2011 and Ballerina will be self-published in October 2012 to honor, and help raise funds for, women with breast cancer. Bob Carey’s work is in the permanent collections of Katherine K. Herberger College of the Arts at Arizona State Museum, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Arts (SMoCA) and in Private Collections in New York, California, Arizona and France. Solo exhibitions include: Gallerie Callu Merite Paris, Chiaroscuro Gallery Santa Fe, Trinity Gallery Atlanta, Udinotti Gallery Scottsdale and June Bateman Gallery New York. The work has been featured in Prague, Paris, Strasbourg, New York and Arizona.
