Students need to be engaged and develop 21st century skills.

 Digital literacy  Global literacy  Technology literacy  Visual literacy  Information literacy  Critical thinking  Creativity

Educators are the lead thinkers for this innovation

 Center for Digital Story Telling at  College of Education at the University of Houston at lstorytelling/  Educause Learning Initiative at www. educause.edu/eli  Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21)

To create digital stories, we have to access more than one product.

 Teachers' fears and inhibitions  Lack of technical support at school level for teachers  More time needed to create digital stories which takes time away from test prep activities

Digital Storytelling is process of combining digital medias (hardware and software devices) to create digital stories.

Affordable tools can be used to create digital stories.

 QuickTime Free download  iTunes Free download

 Windows movie maker Free Download  Imageblender3 Free Download

 Inspiration Minimal price  Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 with multimedia slideshow

 Teachers and professors are the lead distributors of this innovation.

1. A STORY TO TELL. 2. DIGITAL MEDIA TO GIVE YOUR STORY LIFE

3. COLLABORATE WITH OTHERS 4. PUBLISH SO OTHERS CAN ENJOY

This is the stage where individuals or other decision-making units are exposed to an innovation’s existence and gains an understanding of how it functions.

 Early 1990‘s in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.

 Dana Atchley and Joe Lambert worked together to create ways for people to express their life stories using digital tools.

Persuasion is where the individual forms a favorable or unfavorable attitude toward the innovation.

 1993: Joe and Dana taught "digital storytelling workshops" at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, California to filmmakers.  1994: Nina Mullen joined Dana and Joe, and the three of them founded the San Francisco Digital Media Center.

 1994: Nina Mullen joined Dana and Joe, and the three of them founded the San Francisco Digital Media Center.

Decision occurs when the individual engages in activities that lead to a choice to adopt or reject an innovation.

 In 1996, they developed the "Seven Elements" of Digital Storytelling and show that they are willing to fully adopt this innovation.

 In 1998, the San Francisco Digital Media Center becomes the Center for Digital Storytelling (CDS) after relocating to the University of California at Berkeley's School of Education.

Implementation occurs when an individual puts an innovation to use.

 In 1999, the CDC presents digital storytelling at the New Media Consortium Conference.

 In 1999, they also promote numerable workshops at colleges and universities in the United States.

 They also establishes digital storytelling in the world of higher education.

Confirmation is where the individual seeks reinforcement for the innovation- decision already made, and may reverse the decision if exposed to conflicting messages about the innovation.

 In 2001, the CDS Initiates first national K-12 digital storytelling program.

 In 2001, the CDC holds the first Y.O.U.T.H Training Project workshop. rg/index.php

In 2001, the CDC becomes model for K-12 implementation

 From 2002 through 2006, they promoted and continued to promote it throughout the U.S.

 Visited forty-five of the states  Five provinces in Canada  Thirty-three countries around the world.  Helped other organizations develop their own workshops, implement a variety of production techniques, and helped with the distribution processes of their work.
