Young Life Oregon Southwest Washington Small Town Initiative Phase 2 – Meeting 1 Introducing the Ministry Meeting Planning Notes (Draft: October 6, 2012) These are supporting notes Do not use as a presentation!

Before the Meeting: Preparation  Go through your presentation four or five times  Have materials ready to access Notes  Arrive early and set up  Connect with host/hostess  Pray specifically for discernment about the ‘person of peace’ you are looking for – the leader who can open doors.

Agenda Step 1: Set up the meeting and build rapport  Have host introduce you if it works  Share a little about yourself  Have people around the room introduce themselves – why there? Goal: Connect with the people in the room Determine where they are related to the journey you are taking them on (listen carefully with both your mind and heart)

Agenda Step 2: Cast Vision  Provide a brief history of Young Life  Provide a brief local history with Young Life as a backdrop to why you are there  The larger territory  The town you are in Tools: – Short video or PowerPoint slides – Bring a member from a current committee who might be good at connecting relationally

Agenda Step 5: Introduce What Young Life Represents (‘Brand’)  Introduce topic of branding  Share what it means to be part of the Young Life team in the region  Discuss why would a group would want to engage with the mission Tools: – Short recommendation video – Notes for your comments

Agenda Step 6: Introduce Features and Benefits of a Relationship with Young Life  Make a features and benefits presentation appropriate for context – DO NOT GIVE ANY MORE DETAIL THAN NECESSARY. Turn-key summer camping programs with different camping experiences for High School and Middle School kids Consistency in quality and content of Gospel presentation for your kids. Young Life has been presenting the Gospel in camp settings to kids in a winsome way that they can understand for 70 years. YL Staff serve for 3-4 weeks to provide high quality speaking and program. Head Leaders that train, encourage and serve leaders throughout summer camp week. College summer staff and work crew serve campers and model Christ Adult Guest program. Program designed to introduce adults in your area to the ministry and impact of Young Life. Access to property scholarship funding High level of camping standards (safety, health, cleanliness) are maintained at all YL camps Resort camping programs available to participate in each year that can help energize and grow your area. National Services (Pause where appropriate and discuss the benefit of key items on the list) Mission Leadership and Support: Centralized Administration and Technical Services Liability Insurance Field Training: Training schools, mentoring, internships and education. Capital Purchases and Obligations: Building and maintaining the physical assets and technical infrastructure necessary to provide leadership, information and services. Donor Services: Processes, tracks and acknowledge donor gifts for the entire mission. Financial Services: Manages finances, transactions and complies with IRS regulations. Information Systems: Applications for administrative use and information. Human Resources: Provide a range of services required to recruit and maintain staff and volunteers to ensure compliance with Young Life standards of faith and conduct. Communications Services: Publications, web site, public and media needs Legal Services: Copyright and trademark issues, legal information and guidelines.

Agenda Step 7: Present Options for Engagement  Full-time staff option  Part-time staff option  Teacher staff option  Volunteer area option Goal: to forward the discussion toward selection of an option. Doesn’t need to be resolved that night. Listen and facilitate the discussion at the pace the group is comfortable with.
