Getting Members Involved Identify areas of greatest interest, but make sure to include less common interests too Set up work groups Ask people who respond to inquiries to get more involved-give them options Personal best Call people to discuss if hesitant to get involved

Getting Members Involved Send out “Welcome to Breast Care SIG letter”, revise annually. Add personal touch Be responsive Be inclusive Be welcoming Make SIG meetings FUN Use persuasion

Getting Members Involved Provide recognition of involvement Increases awareness of Breast Care SIG- THINK PINK team Notes from BRC SIG leadership on SIG-related posters commending them on a job well done.

Increasing Interest in Leadership Positions Query work group members Ask membership via announcements and newsletters Make leadership roles personal, identifiable, approachable Introduce leaders to membership via biographies, pictures, etc. Promote co-leadership

Increasing Interest in Leadership Positions Make sure interested individuals know that there is support from National (Carol DeMarco, Angie Stengel, Diane Scheuring, Jenny Shinsky) Emphasize - no one person has to do it all Mentor new leaders, set an example with your leadership style Keep your eyes and ears open! Use your intuition!

Increasing Interest in Leadership Positions Give thanks, and praise everyone involved, even in a small way Provide certificates of appreciation at Congress, mail to those not in attendance. A positive experience in SIG activities will foster desire to be more involved.

Newsletter Success Co-editors! Look for interesting and timely topics Reach out to other SIGs for authors Keep an eye out for articles in ONF, CJON on related topics Identify hot topics (NCI, Medline alerts) Plan a newsletter in advance (or two) Practice Corner

Virtual Community Success Co-administrators! Use every opportunity to direct members to the site- communiqués, newsletters CBCN test blueprint and review questions Recognition of member achievements Patient education resources, links Announce professional education offerings

IOL and Congress Topics Use same tactics as for newsletter Always be looking ahead for ideas Offer your support Help find speakers Do it once yourself so you see how it is done! Mentor new speakers
