State Asthma Plan  Purpose: Describes what needs to be done to address asthma in Mississippi, provides an organized way for communities to deliver asthma programs, and will reduce duplication of efforts.  Process: Utilized input from all regional coalitions. Each coalition has selected priorities for 2006 from overall plan.  Intent: Asthma partners will implement specific portions of the state plan because of their own interest in asthma.

Goals – State Asthma Plan Reduce asthma hospitalization rates among children and adults. Decrease asthma disparities in all public health districts/coalition regions. Reduce burden of asthma on Mississippians. Increase healthcare provider and patient education related to asthma.

Encourage healthcare providers to use standard patient-specific Asthma Action Plans. Enhance community health education. Goals – State Asthma Plan

The first of Mississippi’s chronic disease plans to initiate planning at the local level. The first state asthma plan in the U.S. to address emergency preparedness related to respiratory disease. From the very beginning, asthma partners were committed to providing specific resources to further the work of the ACM. What makes Mississippi’s State Asthma Plan unique?
