3 3 CSP Renewal Process Review Stage Conclusions 1.CSP has made significant contributions to sport in Canada and it should be renewed. Renewed policy should build on the existing framework and address its design and implementation weaknesses Renewed policy should continue to address a broad interpretation of sport 2.Renewed policy should have a stronger narrative to drive the relevance/ implementation at the community level. 3.All four goals (Participation, Excellence, Capacity, Interaction) should be maintained but possibly re-defined and/or re-arranged.

4 4 CSP Renewal Process Review Stage 2010 – Conclusions (continued) 4.Participation should be better defined, and Capacity and Interaction should be more rigorously developed and supported. 5.Role of community-building through sport as a potential goal requires more discussion. 6.Broad and extensive consultations should be conducted as the basis for developing a new policy.

5 5 CSP Renewal Process Renewal Stage 2010 Key principles in carrying out next stage of consultations and design of new policy 1.Need for stronger linkages with stakeholders at the community level 2.Benefit of incorporating fundamental long-term participant/athlete development concepts into new policy 3.Desire for a broad, expansive and inspirational vision for the sport policy that includes the positive contribution of sport to a wide variety of societal issues 4.Benefit of a narrative or story-line for the policy, emanating from the vision statement so the policy has broader resonance.

6 6 CSP Renewal Process Renewal Stage 2010 Key Principles (continued) 5.Design of the new policy to serve as a roadmap and provide direction (in a non-coercive manner) for governments and the sport community, from community to national level, but allows stakeholders to contribute in their own way. 6.Need for a mechanism to enable NGOs and other sectors to formally endorse or affiliate with the new policy and contribute to some or all of its objectives. 7.Need for a performance management strategy to ensure that the policy is developed according to leading-edge practices, and so that progress can be measured, monitored and managed throughout its lifespan.
