The role of management - How to organize meaningful and powerful environment of learning in the net

Different areas of organizing network based learning Pedagogy and teaching methods Organizing teaching and facilities Teacher’s work Abilities of teachers Personal Study Plan Learning guidance Planning content Student’s learning Decisionmaking and administration Different learners

Organizing teaching and facilities  Mode of operations values, view of learning, pedagogical leadership  planning education and resource-allocation  co-operation networks and their functions  participating in studies of another educational institute  offering studies from your own educational institute to students coming from other units  computers and other equipment, network connections  support services

Pedagogy and teaching methods Premise is to offer meaninful and purposeful education for the student –What sort of learning are we aiming for? –Why are the studies taken to the net? –What is the added value to the student?  flexible learning possibilities  equalizes teaching  support to different way of learning (focusing, repeating, animation...)

Abilities of teachers –at least basic computing skills –building the learning environment - assignments - doesn’t include creating the actual learning materials –pedagogical skills - the central assignment of the teacher is to guide the learning process

Teacher’s work practical implementation:  building the learning environment (all teachers or assigned to one)  teacher’s tools and working hours  user accounts  initiation of students to the platform in use  more teachers to be included in development  teachers of different areas/subjects compliment each other  the change will be more sustainable

Student’s learning the student knows what is expected of him or her and how to proceed with his or her studies tools are accessible adequate computing skills

Example of net based learning in Social and Health Care (practical nurse) Background smaller educational units cannot offer all education options for their students ( nine study programmes) student is forced to change educational units and location Goals students have more choices possibility to study at your own location

Network of educational units network of 12 educational units special expertise bought from another educational unit study guidance and a part of common studies will happen in his or her own educational unit

Implementation Own educational unit: Learning at work, arrangements and guidance Study guidance Swedish Supervision of exams Thesis Practical exams Technical Support Educational unit offering network based learning: Theoretical studies and guidance  network based learning  contact learning  independent learning Learning at work, assignments and councelling in the net

Financial resources Finnish Government´s Funding ~ 6900 € per student Payable to the educational unit with which the student is registered Of which distribution of expences is the following  ~ 60 % educational unit offering network based learning  ~ 40 % student´s educational unit
