Welcome to Year 4 Working in Year 4 will be  Mrs Humpage  Mrs Teresa van Staden  Mrs O’Connor – Wednesday morning  Mrs Ruffell – during the week

Timetable What they will need:  Everyday they should bring in their reading book and reading record book – school bag  Letters to be given to the teacher at the beginning of the morning  Monday – PE kit – this half term is outdoor games – trainers  Tuesday – a book to read with their reading partner in Year 2, their swimming kit in a small bag and coat when the weather starts to get colder  Wednesday – guitars – put upstairs in them music room and taken home at the end of the day  Thursday – recorders – taken home at the end of the day

Expectations now familiar with the routines and organisation of the juniors – wearing indoor plimsolls, how break time and lunchtimes are organised to become more independent and involved in their learning that they take pride in their work and present their work to a high standard - handwriting to build on their previous year’s learning so that they continue to move forward that they take responsibility – within the classroom – monitors that work is completed and handed in on time so that feedback can be given and acted upon – marking and feedback time Behaviour – keep to the class rules we have decided upon

Curriculum The Year 4 curriculum overview can be found on the website and this gives an outline of what we will be covering this term. On the class webpage you will also find the weeks homework. Mrs Hawkes has already informed you of the new procedures and arrangements. We will have some new topics this year and with the new curriculum the expected outcomes in maths have changed and some have moved down from year 5 whilst some of the Year 4 outcomes have been moved into lower year groups. For example, by the end of year 4 children are expected to know all their tables to x12.

Spellings

Homework Homework as you know will be given on a: Wednesday – talk homework – RE the ‘Wednesday Word’ Friday – English – comprehension task, grammar task and spellings Maths - online task using ‘My Maths’ programme or a maths investigation (You will be given a guidance for parents sheet which will have your child’s login details on.) On-going – multiplication tables – x 6 x 9 related to x 3 and daily reading Homework books – same standard of presentation, returned to school by Wednesday – maths book can be used for working out and evaluating their task when doing an online activity.

Mrs Flint or Mrs Dell will be happy to make an appointment for you and I will be more than happy to meet with you – before or after school.
