Public Speaking Tips

Volume  Remember that more than anything we need to be able to HEAR you!  If you are too quiet, people will start to fidget, chat, and fall asleep.  I WILL STOP YOU!

Posture  Stand up straight!  You may move freely around the room.  Avoid pacing, rocking back and forth, putting you hands in your pocket, playing with your hair, etc.

Enthusiasm  Talk like you care about what you’re saying.  You DO NOT need to pretend that you LOVED the book, but you should think that what you are saying to all of us is important and worth our time…if it isn’t, think of something else to say!

Managing your Time  Your presentation should be about 5 minutes long.  Way too short is not acceptable.  You will be stopped after 6 minutes.

Practice!!!!!  Think about what you want to say before hand.  Make your family/friends be your test audience!  DO NOT memorize every word you are going to say.  DO NOT simply read from your blog/poster/website!
