Presentation transcript:

"The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights" Gloria Steinem International Women's Day (IWD), also called International Working Women's Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political, and social achievements. It is a day that also concerns itself with recognising that in many areas of society women are still disadvantaged.

As many as 1 in 4 women experience physical or sexual violence during pregnancy Women account for 70% of the population living in absolute poverty (on less than $1.00 a day). 603 million women live in countries where domestic violence is not yet considered a crime. Over 60 million girls worldwide are child brides, married before the age of 18. Women own only 1% of the world’s land 80% of the 50 million people around the world who are affected by violent conflicts, civil wars, disasters, and displacement are women and children
