VISION & CORE BUSINESS The Role of Vision and Core Business in Our Campus Ministry

What is Vision? Definition A clear mental image of a preferable future imparted by God to His chosen servants and is based upon an accurate understanding of God, self and circumstances George Barna, The Power of Vision, pg. 28

Components Of Vision Clear mental image Preferable change to current state  future focus Imparted by God Dreaming the most possible dream Built on reality and a realistic perspective

Why Vision Important in Ministry? Focus & Determination Direction of our life and ministry Perseverance in difficulties, sufferings and persecutions

Paul’s Story Five different times the Jews gave me thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. I have traveled many weary miles. I have faced danger from flooded rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the stormy seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be Christians but are not. I have lived with weariness and pain and sleepless nights. Often I have been hungry and thirsty and have gone without food. Often I have shivered with cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm 2 Corinthians 11:24-27

What keep Paul on the course? Paul was well educated, articulated and driven leader, with many life promising options to choose Yet, he chose a life of serving Jesus and the Gentiles, and as the consequence, faced many persecutions and sufferings. What kept Paul running on his course? It’s the vision that God had entrusted him that he worked out in his daily life (read Paul’s life in the book of Acts).

Nehemiah’s Story Greatly sad with the condition of Jerusalem Understanding God’s Word, confessed his nation’s and ancestors’ sins, and even identified them as his. Risking his life by asking King Artaxerxes to grant his trip to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem Facing great oppositions from various enemies and internal corruption of his own people.

Why Nehemiah chose different life? Nehemiah had a comfortable and wealthy life as the king’s cupbearer (high-rank position). Yet, he chose a risky, challenging and dangerous life. Why? It was the vision from God to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem

Jesus’ Story Then Jesus brought them to an olive grove called Gethsemane… and he began to be filled with anguish and deep distress… "My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death…" praying, "My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine… My Father! If this cup cannot be taken away until I drink it, your will be done.” Matthew 26:36-42

Jesus’ Vision Why did Jesus want to endure the most sadistic death on the cross? He is God with all His glory, power, and authority in the heaven It’s the vision of God the Father that Jesus was to became the perfect sacrifice Lamb for our sins, so that we can be reconciled back to God. Mark 10:45
