CONTINUING THE POST-HIGH SCHOOL PROCESS

Make sure all the “pieces” keep coming in.

REMEMBER….complete your on-line application….. THEN….submit your transcript request in Guidance.

Deadlines!!!!!!! THESE ARE ABSOLUTE Counselors process 100’s of applications Keep in mind MAIL TIME and WEATHER!!! Don’t wait until the last minute!!! Specific dates per school No applications processed in BHS from December 16 th thru January 6 th

Jan 1 st or 15 th deadlines: If your school has a Jan.1 or Jan. 15 deadline you MUST submit your transcript request BEFORE December break.

ACCEPTANCE LETTERS: When you receive an acceptance letter from a college or university, please bring a copy to the Guidance office. We track progress for students This provides information for future prospective students

Tips if you are “deferred” A deferral is NOT a denial! Follow the directions in the deferral letter. Send the college any NEW info. about you. “New” = test scores, awards, honors, etc. When sending new info., include a short note explaining the “new” information. Read the letter carefully. See your counselor or college counselors for ?’s

SENIOR YEAR COUNTS!!! Colleges review your senior year transcript in June. Your application is not complete until they receive your final (complete 4-year) transcript. You must maintain the same academic standards You must notify your colleges of ANY schedule changes.

7 th Semester grades (“mid-year report”) Not all colleges require 7 th semester grades, also called a “mid-year report”. Your 7 th semester (mid-year) grades ARE NOT automatically sent.

If a college(s) needs your 7 th semester (mid-year) grades, what do you do? Come to Guidance after December break. Fill out the purple “7 th Semester Transcript Request” – one for each school There is NO FEE for this request.

SENDING YOUR FINAL TRANSCRIPT (END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR) Final transcript In MAY

How do you send your final transcript to the school you are attending?? May 1 = Decision Day Senior Check out in May You MUST complete the Senior Exit Survey on NAVIANCE (available on Naviance in April) As part of that survey, you tell us WHERE TO SEND YOUR FINAL TRANSCRIPT.

What you need to do……. Stay up to date with your Make sure you have your Naviance account information. Make sure the we have on Naviance is accurate. Come to Guidance if you don’t remember your username or password!!!

Your college application is not complete without your final transcript. Transcript with SENIOR YEAR GRADES. Last piece of the puzzle.

Focus on Financial Aid Parent Program Thursday, January 23 rd – Auditorium 7:00 p.m. Colleges and Universities have Financial Aid deadlines--know what yours are!! Encourage your parents to come to this informational meeting to help maximize your chances of receiving financial aid. There are three forms of financial aid: 1.Scholarships/grants 2. student and/or parent loans 3. college work study.

FAFSA Completion Workshop for parents Wednesday, January 29 5:00-7:00 p.m. BHS Library by APPOINTMENT ONLY FAFSA = Free Application for Federal Student Aid For parents who need some help starting or completing the FAFSA. Professionals from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will be available to aid in this process. Appointments are required to attend this program.
